So Now That Housing is Paid For

How does one go about finding a roommate (or suite mates I guess)? Obviously there’s the Roommate Selection part of the housing application, but it can only help so much. How did all your kids contact/meet their roommates?

Join the Class of 2018 FB group. I believe there is a roommate finder on there as that is how my D found her potential roommates and then she really clicked with one. They met at Preview Weekend and are 2 little peas in a pod.

After we secured an early room selection window, DS poked around the FB and roommate finder sites a little, but to be honest he wasn’t too interested in the process. I guess he looked at it like Y camp: Cabin-mates usually figure out a way to get along…

He had pretty much decided to pick an empty suite and let others randomly fill it up. In March, a casual friend (NOT a BFF) belatedly chose Bama over Georgia Tech, and needed someone with an early sign-up slot to pull him into a good non-honors dorm.

That was a win-win. Today, they’re getting along great in their first year in Riverside West.

If you made your deposit early, congrats. You now have options. You can work it hard and find a million potential roommates, or just let the word get out that you have a primo sign-up slot, relax for a few months, and see if anything develops.

It’s nice to have options.
