So they DON'T want transcripts/letters of recommendation?

I couldn't really find anything on the site about transcripts other than that you have to send them if you get in... does that mean they don't want 9-11th grade transcripts or mid-year reports?

Also, the site says they don't "require or solicit" rec letters... can I still send them in if I have them?

Im pretty sure the UCs can get your transcripts automatically from your high school. Thats how it worked for me anyway I went to school in California.

As far as letter of recs go, I guess if theyre already typed up and ready to go you might as well send them. If you havent had someone do them yet then I would suggest not sending them in; admissions doesnt really care about how cool teachers/coaches think you are, thats more of a private school thing, theyre more quantitative than that.

That would make sense for people who went to high school in California, but I go to a high school in Illinois. :/

As far as recs, I guess I may as well send them in then.

Letters of recommendation.
UC does not require or solicit letters of recommendation for undergraduate admission.

[University of California - Admissions](http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/apply/apply_how.html)

Waste of postage. Sending them in would be the same as throwing them in the trash can or using them to wipe your butt with.

fireshark - Thanks for copy/pasting my post back to me.

VTECaddict - my school sends them for free. SO I may as well.

No problem. I’m sorry it took 5 other people and a copypaster to tell you exactly the same thing the web site says.

Maybe I should post my question again to reiterate.

“Also, the site says they don’t “require or solicit” rec letters… can I still send them in if I have them?”

what’s the purpose of sending in letters of rec if they’re going to throw them away? it may be free for you, but it ain’t free.

My question is WILL THEY throw them away?

Yes, I know what the website says. The University of Wisconsin website says the same thing but they also said that you can send recs as part of your app even though they are not required or asked for.

YES, they will throw them away and they will sigh in disgust. They also put a mark on your package because you obviously didn’t bother to read the website or instructions. A friend of mine works at the admissions office.

Thanks. Helpful.

Where on the website does it say “We throw away all letters of recommendation”? It simply says “we do not require or solicit them.” That means “we won’t make you send them.” However, it leaves the question of whether they ACCEPT THEM open-ended.

Can someone give me a serious answer?

And can someone answer the question about my transcript?

THEY DO NOT ACCEPT, THEY DO THROW THEM AWAY!!!

Seriously, if you’re applying to UCLA, think about it?

WHAT GROUP, that is publicly funded (with a depleted state gov trying to cut back), is going to sift through over 55,000 letters of recommendation?

Think about it…

dream, Im sorry that the UCLA forum is being a bit harsh on you. The point is, it will neither be advantageous nor disadvantageous for your admission to a UC if you send in letters of rec. It’s just more work for the admissions officer to file the letter, pretty sure they wont throw it away. At least I don’t believe anyone here can say with 100% certainty that they literally toss all rec letters in the garbage.

If you dont end up getting an answer about the transcript, your HS counselor will probably have more accurate information about that anyway.

Thank you for your help, sid, and for being the only one to provide a legitimate answer. :)

apparently your question WASN’T CLEAR because many users in this thread provided you with USEFUL INFORMATION that led to the SAME CONCLUSION.

they may or may not discard your letters of rec immediately, but they will DEFINITELY NOT read them. so sooner or later they’re obviously going to throw them away.

Just so you know:
