(i'm wondering, will AA help?)

thanks alot

Everything seems good except for GPA. What's your financial situation?

GPA is really going to bring you down. what's your class rank/percentile?

are you counting those As from the CC in your gpa?

private school rank might help. and DO use your resources, especially your college counselor

d'oh! didn't catch that the private school does not rank. Not to paint too harsh a picture, but unless that GPA goes up dramatically, I wouldn't count on admission, and might start looking to other schools.

I didn't mean your personal rank within your class. I meant how your school ranks compared to other private schools. Are you up there with Exeter?

Financial situation:applying for financial aid, would like to get some grants/scholarships, and if need be, take some loans. ugh

CC's A's not counted in there, should i count them?

it's not exeter status, but it's up there. not sure where exactly, but all i know is USC ranks it in the top 1% of high schools, and we send almost all grads to some sort of ivy or top 30 school. (bottom half end up going to Pepperdine, UC Davis, Cal Poly, etc.)

I think that if you market yourself well, you have a shot. USE your college counselor. I would send your CC transcript, and write the schools a note, asking them to factor those #s into your GPA. I think that that would be totally fair, considering many people on this site are CC students asking for their chances. Your essays on hardships will probably help explain your slightly lower GPA. You'll just need to show a higher GPA for the next couple of semesters. 1st semester senior year will be very important. You might be facing a wait-list situation for some of your schools, so you'll need to keep up the grades second semester too.
How do you think the grades will be at the end of this semester?
If gtown is def. #1, consider applying early. You'll have a slight edge. Talk to professors at the school and make personal connections.

3.44 is a killer. sorry dude.

get 2200+ on the SAT and 750+ on some subject tests, then you'd have a slightly better chance.

it's looking like this is the highest sem. yet, i'm guessing 3.8+

That's good to hear your GPA will be higher this semester. Study hard for those APs. Would it be possible for you to take classes at the CC this summer too? Next semester, your GPA needs to be equally strong.
Btw, your high school probably DOES rank; they just don't like to tell you. (My high school did this.)
Do you want to be a Spanish major? You seem very good at it.

What sort of GPA do Ivy and top college admits from that high school usually get? If the applicant is close to those numbers than he is fine. If not, then a huge upward trend would be nice.

Well for some schools i'm putting that down, but i think i want to go more into business/law. i'm leaning towards undecided for the ones i'm not putting spanish on (which is like all of them except UCLA)

like a 3.65+, but it depends on strength of schedule, tests, etc.

HHMI fo' life.

Anyways, I think you're wrong. This applicant goes to a private school (I'm assuming not a Catholic school), so a lot of the kids who get acceptances to top colleges from their don't have the racial AA going for them (since I'm guessing most are white or asian). A 3.44 really isn't that bad (especially since he's taking the hardest courseload). Given his situation, I think he can manage maybe 0.25 at most away from the "top college" GPA acceptance average (on a scale of 4.0).
