So, uh, does this mean I didn't get into NASS?

Yeah I got that too. I had to call admissions to find out if I was accepted or not. The e-mail came before the letter. Wierd.

JERSEY... we too are in GA.. My daughter applied at 12:01 on Feb 1st. She had her acceptance within 3 weeks. SHe needed week one, The gave her week two.. She called and the very nice lady in Admissions. Captain Byrd said.. THERE IS ONLY 1 SPACE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR REGION LEFT in WEEK 1 and Let my daugter switch. So I am thinking that perhaps there were so many from whatever region Georgia is in that it filled up fast and by the time the got to your sons app perhaps there was no space left.. 1800 spots in all.. and even less designated for each particular region. Just a thought.

Just a thought for those of you not selected for NASS: first, I just want to reassure you that appointments do go out to kids that miss the selection for NASS.

Second, for those anxious to visit/experience the yard, the USNA offers lots of summer sports camps- and while it is not NASS, it does offer you an opportunity to meet the coaches, stay on the yard, eat in Kings Hall, stay in Bancroft, and see a little of what goes on during plebe summer. Just a thought!

yes, eating in king hall.

what a treat:)

LOL.

It's certainly a "different" experience, eh? ;)

The "cottonball" potato salad and pancake on a stick are delicious! NOT :)

Hey jerseynbg,

First of all, your son blew my app out of the water, and I recieved an acceptance dated 15 March. I am, however, a "far west" applicant. Our academics are similar, his athletics much better than mine. One thing I should note is that I did not list any extracurriculars in my application, because I wasn't really serious about going and I got an acceptance. However, I declined the slot, so hopefully someone like your son can go where he has his heart set on. As for me, I'm going to WP SLS this summer, and, though it would have been fun going to NASS as well, at least I know that someone who really wants it will get my spot.

Best wishes to you and your son.

If you live in a highly competitive region, don't be discouraged if you aren't accepted to Summer Seminar at USNA. I really believe geographic diversity is a HUGE issue for NASS. Many extremely successful USNA grads didn't attend Summer Seminar. Don't give up.
Good Luck! :)

If your son/daughter knows that USNA is where they belong, not attending NASS shouldn't be a problem. When I was a junior, 3 of my friends got accepted to NASS, while I did not. They all had a great time, and I wish that I had had the opportunity to go. By the fall of senior year, I was the only one who still had a file with admissions....the others had all withdrawn for various reasons.

So, many people who go to SS discontinue their applications, while others are even more moto after their week. Persistence is what counts.

now, now- I am sure if you look back there was something special about the first time you stepped into the place.....wasn't there?

just wanted to let everyone know that I'm in session 3. For those of you who havn't heard yet, get on the phone and talk to someone, they will tell you your status right there. (they did for me).

Good Luck

Thanks everyone for the additional information and encouragement...this is really a great website!!! Still no letter today - I'll see if my son wants to make that phone call...
The good news is that he hasn't given up - he's going to be an officer in the Navy - come hell or high water!!!

jerseynbg....on the subject of "hell or high water"....it'll be BOTH! :-)

anyone still not get anything in the mail?

Young man in my neighborhood is STILL waiting to hear. I told his mom about this site and they found the info very helpful. He's afraid to call to check on his app--prefers to just wait. Think the wait is harder on his mom than on him! She sees it as his choice to make the call and won't do it unless he wants her to make the call. If the Navy passes on this kid, they are really making a mistake. Comes from military background; top 5% of his class; class officer; Eagle Scout; great athlete--the list goes on. Just wants to serve his country! Thinks if they don't want him for Seminar, they won't want him for the academy.

I replied to ColbyBuss on the "Nass" thread, that my son just received his letter of acceptance into Nass on Saturday, April 15th - 2nd session. Yes we were pleasently surprised...thought it was too late... but like I have read many times on this site..."don't give up". It could still happen. My son called the admissions office earlier in the week and all he was told iwas that he would hear in the next week or so.

I just walked out to my mailbox and found the letter. I'm in to Session I!

However, I found the form a little confusing. It says all deposits and registration forms had to be in by 15 April, and that no extensions would be made. Does anybody else see a problem here?

Hope to see you all soon!

USNA Admissions reply via email in response to my son's question concerning the April 15th deadline ... Please return as quickly as possible...

Congrats on NASS!
