I'm a current junior becoming a senior next year. I have a straight 4.0, around 25 hours of community service (not much, i plan on getting more), a 1980 on my SAT I, and I have yet to take my SAT II.
I took no AP classes my sophomore year, and one honors course my junior year. I have two semesters of an online geometry class from one summer when I wanted to get ahead in math. I plan on taking three courses at a community college this summer and 3 AP classes my senior year.
Even though I didn't have any AP classes until senior year, will I still be able to get in to a good college? I feel like no one told me about the importance of AP classes until it was too late. My school only offered about 3 different AP courses, and none of them appealed to me. It's a relatively low-achieving school, though, so I'm towards the top of the class. I'm hoping that I can make up for my lack of AP classes by taking these advanced classes over the summer and next year. Will it work if I push now to take as many AP classes as possible, or is it too late?
I'm looking at UCLA and UC Berkeley in particular. At this point I am willing to work as hard as it takes to make up for my somewhat lazy past and look impressive. I only hope I had this determination sooner.
