This is a great thread from parents who have BTDT about what doesn’t get used. At the end of the year when you pack your kids up you see a lot of these gadgets you paid a LOT of money for come home in the original packaging…

I was so grateful for the collective wisdom and altered several things on my already very LONG list I was crafting for my son during his Sr. year of hs. I look forward to paying it forward as I see what we sent that never gets used throughout this year. I have a hunch of a few things already that are probably coming home by winter break.

My D lofted her bed (not all the way up, but a little up) and was concerned about having a nightstand where she could put her clock, phone, and computer, when she was done looking at it at night. She found this at Ikea [TROFAST Frame - IKEA](<a href=“TROFAST Frame, white, 18 1/8x11 3/4x57 1/8" - IKEA”>http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/30171123), and it had worked out well for her. It’s pretty tall and thin, and has lots of storage bins. She put it behind the head of her bed. We brought it in the car in the package and husband and teenage son built it in about a half hour at move in. Not sure how we are going to deal with it next summer, though.

Great idea lenny2! Our son’s bed is lifted about 2.5 foot for storage. For a nightstand to put his clock/cell/etc. we ended up with four drawer cart from Staples (he took the wheels off). It’s worked out really well. It was on sale for $10 at the time! Whoot-whoot!
