Hello everyone. I'm having one of those nights where I can't sleep because I'm thinking about colleges.

I've always had a huge fascination with technology. That's why I'm interested in studying electrical engineering at UIUC.

I just finished my sophomore year last week.

3.5 GPA Weighted
4.4 GPA Unweighted
2 years Scholastic Bowl, Mathletes,
1 year JV Soccer, Newspaper, Rotary Club, Student Council, Paps Club
I'm in the top 10% of my class
I doubled up on math and will be taking AP Calc my senior year
I will take every science class my school offers
I take Honors and AP classes whenever I can

I know my GPA is on the average side, but I'm looking to bring it up next year.

I have yet to take to the ACT, which is really a big factor in these things, but I guess I'm a little eager to know what my chances are.

Adhiman, it’s too early to accurately say what your chances are. You seem to have a good start on extracurriculars, and are making a effort to take a rigorous course load where possible. I’m assuming that you mean a 3.5 unweighted. All Engineering programs at the University of Illinois are extremely selective. They draw top applicants from around the country and internationally. Many have higher GPAs than you have now. They are competing for the same limited number of spots in the program that you are. You need to work on getting that GPA up a bit. Having said that, they will look at your school profile and compare you to the schools history of successful applicants at the U of I, and how your school fares when compared to other applicant High Schools. To support a GPA that’s not nearer to a 4.0, your standardized test scores from either the ACT or SAT become much more important. To have a reasonable shot at getting admitted to U of I Engineering, assuming your GPA remains at around 3.5, I’d say you’d need a 32+ on the ACT, or it’s equivalent on the SAT. Just my opinion. Good luck.
