I know these are posted millions and millions of times but with UIUC becoming more and more "out there" (People with 32s getting rejected and such) with its choices of students I want to know what you think.

In state, white, male.
Major - LAS Computer Sciene (Either Math& or Stat&, dunno yet)
ACT - 28
GPA - 3.68 (Career), 4.0 (Last sem of junior year) and my GPAs have been rising since fresh year.
Classes - everything honors but english and religion (yea catholic school). Will take one AP (physics) senior year, and also Computer Science as an elective if that helps at all.
Rank - 41/169 (this is unadjusted) I dont know my adjusted yet, but due to the competitiveness of my school many A honor roll ties occur and rank everyone pretty low.
EC - Sports freshman year, a couple volunteer benefits here and there, and a movie club. (Yea I wasnt too big on involvement)

I dunno what else to write. Thanks for any help you can offer, hopefully I can get in seeing its my #1 choice and I'm completely hell bent on getting in ha. Thanks again.

ps. Does UIUC take into account grading scales. My school is on the 93 A, etc scale. And when I get Bs, its usually like a 90-91. So now that I think of it, it is rather unfair. But meh, I dunno.

I have similar stats to you and I got in, but I'm out of state. I had about a 3.65 with about 7 AP classes and 2 honors classes (yeah, I'm a slacker) and a 1940 SAT, plus 750 and 660 on SAT IIs. I think 1940 is around a 30 ACT. I also had very few extracurriculars, like 3-4 clubs and very little community service types of things. Oh yeah, I'm also in LAS. Judging by my experience and what I've read here, you have a very good chance.

The grading scale means little because what UIUC relies on is class rank. Yours is low (what do you mean by adjusted and will that make it higher?) but it does consider competitiveness of high school if, in fact, yours is -- they generally measure competitiveness by looking at a school's average ACT score. UIUC is a reach based on what you provided and your essays will be important because you are borderline.

Yes (top 1/4) but not the high end of competitiveness. Some schools like University Laboratory, Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy, and Northside College Prep, usually have average ACT's in the 28 to 30 range.

yea. thats our average from what I can remember, but I know in the past couple years we've had a 36 and a bunch of 35s so maybe it might be higher now. I dunno. well thanks for the help.

Well, you have an A- average in-state and a pretty decent ACT. I think you're in (btw: I'm from Illinois too. U of I is my last-resort safety though). But with your grades, I think you're probably in.
