Maybe its because they had Prof. Hodel for MATH 103 :p

Naw, I definitely thought multivar was easier than BC Calc.

103 isn't an easy course, but the way the two classes are graded, it's easier to do better in 103 than in 32 (according to a lot of friends who've taken 103).

Grrrrrrrrr...changing my courses again. I'm doing FOCUS now (the Athens one). My elective will be Math 103 or Chem 151, not sure which.

Hey, are upperclassmen still registering for classes? Because there were 2 spots left in a class I wanted to take but now there is only one! I have first window too!!! Damn, I hate Duke!

:)

After our registration window opens we can register whenever we want and change around our classes. Someone might have picked up that class and dropped another one. What kind of class is it DMC? Sometimes if you email or bug the professor if you don't get a spot he or she will let you in anyway.

I'll PM you the class because some upperclassmen might see this post and take the class just to spite me.

LOL jk

I'm doing
Educ 100
Educ 118
Psy 97
French 1 and
Japanese 1

Although I'm debating between Japanese, French and Spanish. I hear Duke's Spanish program sucks... but I really want to learn it. I'm also debating between whether I should do 2 languages or 1... then I'd try out other courses like polisci and econ... which I honestly don't think I have an interest in.
Any suggestions?

What are you majoring in Kerfin?

Psych. With an education cert. and education (teaching) license.
Thing is, if I take 2 languages I won't have space for another major or for other courses... On the other hand I don't think I'd like any other courses... they just sound so boring.
I might do biology though. Might.

"I want that B+ freshman orgo curve!!! "

what's special about the freshman orgo curve?

Also, why are so many people who have already taken calc 3 taking 103?

am i going to be the only freshman in 104?

Calc III is the highest required math for my major (BS in Econ) so Duke won't give me credit for it. I could just take the EcoTeach math test to get out of it, but for grad school I need 103 to show up on my transcript. And it's not actually a pre-req for 104. I personally only need it for a probability class I'm taking later.

Does anyone know about Math 41? Its the class that they recommend you take if you got a 3 or a 4 on the AB exam and above a 680 on the SAT II's. I don't feel too confident about calc, I didn't study very hard and don't know the material very well. I figure I got around a 3 or 4 on the exam and have a score of 740 for both the SAT Math and IIC. The thing is, while there is a quick differential calculus review in the beginning of the class, the final exam is the same as the Math 32 exam. Not having prepared myself very well in high school, I'm just worried that maybe it might prove to be too difficult.

I wouldn't do math 41 if I were you. It's very fast paced and (I've heard) is one of the hardest classes at Duke (along with orgo). If you don't have enough confidence in Math 41, you might be better off doing Math 31 and 32. If you are an engineer though, I think you have a handful of math classes to take, so maybe in that case you should take Math 41 to get it over with.

I'm thinking about Math 41...I aced all the math standardized tests but didn't take the AP Calc at all

I think taking Math 41, just because it can't be THAT bad, i hope...you take the Calc I exam or something, or is it the Calc II exam you take, I forget

if u havent had any calculus it would be suicide... seriously.. i couldnt imagine doing 2 calc classes in one without previous experience... but if u just had regular calculus then you will probably be OK

Hey everyone! My classes are Intro to Eng., Writing 20 (Politics of Scientific Discovery), Psych., Math 41, and Chem 23L.

I had a year of AP calc at HS, so I should be fairly ok for Math 41 I think?

Of course, I haven't looked at anything Calculus related in 7 months.

So I reworked my entire schedule. I'm gonna do Chem 21L, Spanish 63, Econ 1D, and then Writing 20 (Governing Culture Wars). I really want the Chem, but I can't do Chem and then a math lab too...I'd die. Is it a bad idea to not take math my first semester?

Loveduke22, I found myself in the same situation because I'm considering pre-med. I called up the Pre-Major Advising Center, and the woman I spoke to said that it's not only doable to take Chem and Math in one semester, it's very common. If all goes my way and I get the classes I want, I'm actually going to be taking Chem 23L and Math 31L...so if you choose to take both a Chem and a Math, at least you won't be suffering alone :)
