I was really impressed with the SCI discount. I think I'm gonna get the D630. How about you?

Did you just get the info in the mail? I haven't gotten mine yet...

my bro (who's a university senior) told me to get an apple macbook pro simply because it's more powerful. It is on promotion now and i think the purchase comes with a free iPod nano if you are a student!! you can check it out at the apple website.

I wonder if the Macbook Pro offered through SCI comes with the iPod though.

I'm getting a Dell XPS 410 w/2 gigs of RAM, 1.86 ghz processor, 250 GB hard drive, and some other stuff in it. Niiiiiiiiiiiice.

Definitely a Macbook. The generally superior laptops at the time (unless you really want a gaming machine, which isn't that much of a priority for me), plus I've always been a fan of Macs. Also, the iPod nano doesn't hurt. :-)

What ipod? Where does it mention an ipod?

yeah.. what iPod?

I didnt get anything from SCI or the netID info either...

Call the admissions office I guess. That really bites. Where do you live btw?

The X61 tablet.

Just curious, what made you want a notebook with a small screen?

the SCI site doesn't mention the ipod nano but it's on the apple website.

visit apple website and look for macbook pro under the student/faculty section. they are giving away a free ipod nano with every computer purchase. not sure if this applies to SCI though but I hope it does...

Weasel: I want a laptop to carry around everywhere with me. If it can't come everywhere and be easy to use everywhere, it's not worth having. I wanted the tablet so I can take notes in lecture, which is a pain in something like MS Word. A tablet is especially useful since after taking notes, you can use handwriting recognition to translate the notes and you'll be able to search them etc.

Also, I'm going to bring a desktop with a 22" widescreen monitor for all my more multimedia and gaming needs.

MacBook/MacBook Pro is, in fact, The Correct Answer ;)

That I'm an Apple employee has nothing to do with the endorsement of course ;)

Nice 10f42. Way to cover all the bases. :)

I called SCI the other day. It seems as though the SCI price is available with no other promotions or discounts as they are on a separate contract with Apple. I guess you could technically get your Macbook from Apple and the free ipod, but it would not come pre-registered with all that extra SCI stuff.

Ditto ivynut. I found out a couple of days ago (haven't visited the thread in a while) and got the same answer. Actually, some workers at the local apple store told me after i drove down there stoked about a new ipod nano. Me, I'm getting a macbook (it'll be my first mac) over the pro because I don't think I'll be needing all that extra power, especially at that non-trivial extra cost. I was looking forward to getting the ipod that i decided to buy a black ipod video anyway (again my first). With resources like iTunes U and given the fact that i have neither an mp3 nor cd player, it seemed like the right way to go.
