I thought it was pretty good. I was with Muir.

The La Jolla Cliffs tour was pretty nice. The Asian music that played in the Muir Quad was awesome (does anyone know the song that they played at a little before 10:00 a.m.?)!

The Residence Hall tour was a bit lacking. We only got to visit Tioga (so I have no idea what Tenaya is like, so I don't know which one to apply for) and there were too many people on the tour (So we had to move around in sections, and the tour lady sometimes forgot to completely wait for those that had to take the stairs and went on talking without them). I wish we could have visited more floors of Tioga and a couple more dorms to get a better FEEL for Tioga. A visit to Tenaya also would have been nice.

The ECE/CSE presentations were kind of dull and a bit too esoteric; I wish they covered more information about the GEs and specific courses that you will be taking as a part of the major. The second part of the ECE presentation was nice as we got to hear from ECE students. Unfortunately we were cut short as we were running low on time, apparently.

The tours of Calit2 was cool. It was nice to hear about all of the research opportunities, but a lot of the explanations of what was actually going on were so esoteric that I think few actually understand exactly what was going on in the labs.

The 4k projector presentation was cool, but unfortunately I sat somewhat near the back, so I didn't get to experience the intended realistic effect (the guy said that you're supposed to be as far back as the screen is tall for that musical piece to seem 100% real, and I was way farther back form that). Overall, though, I felt it was somewhat lacking. It really wasn't as impressive as he seemed to hype it up to be (might be due to where I sat). I was expecting some awesome visual/auditory simulations into fantastic worlds of nature and what not (with 22 channels of sound...or at least something greater than stereo). The first comparison clip between the original format and the 4k format was AWESOME, though (I couldn't believe that such a difference was possible from the original source).

Overall, it was nice. My only regret was that it ran longer than I expected, so I wasn't able to take the general campus tour.

Oh, and excuse my musical n00bness, but what song was that violin performance of in the 4k presentation? Wasn't it one of Vivaldi's Four Seasons or something?

well all i was able to do since i came late was the residence hall tour, i saw a double in tioga. i like the dorms because they are not really cramped and have enough floor space but HA said that they will only give out singles or triples this fall. i also got to see a single in tenaya, it was pretty cool if you want your own space. tenaya seemed like it just go cleaned cuz it smelled pretty good lol and my HA said that tenaya is gonna get remodeled or something in the summer.

and the other thing i was able to do was a general tour of the campus...my tour guide was awesome. the campus is really nice and there is a bunch of construction going on...so a lot of new stuff to look forward to in the coming years.

I thought the 4k projector presentation was pretty boring. The videos went on forever, and some didn't have sound. My friend thought it was amazing though.

I found the scientific videos for the 4k presentation to be the most boring. I'm talking about the ones that showed polygons and lines and what not to simulate hurricanes and water currents. If they were completely computer rendered (showing computer renditions of the hurricane itself and not just wind currents) then they would have been much cooler.

I was going to recommend (but was too late) that prospective UCSD students not familiar with the area go down the street to La Jolla Shores beach (a couple of minutes away from campus) and then to La Jolla Cove. I happened to go to the Shores yesterday and it was really nice. If any of you walked to Black's beach (below the cliffs - across from Muir - there's an easy safe path), La Jolla Shores is just on the other side of Scripps pier from Black's. The proximity to some very nice beaches and beach activities should end up being a big plus to any UCSD students.

Your time here would be a good time to take up surfing, scuba diving, boogie boarding, body surfing, kayaking, etc. Welcome to San Diego.
