So what did you guys do about "Student Previous Year Federal Tax Return"?

Obviously we, as dependent students, don't have one. Still, I tried e-mailing them and all i get is a failure notice. Anyone come to the bottom of this yet? I don't want my financial aid situation to be jeopardized.

Download the “Student Non-Tax Filer Certification” form. You’ll need to fax it in along with your parents tax returns, etc.

I faxed in the Non-Tax Filer form or whatever it’s called. But I didn’t even know that existed until yesterday, so I /just/ sent it in.

For some reason the fax number didn’t work when I tried it. Instead of sending my form through, my machine connected me to some guy’s mail box and said it was full. I guess I’ll just have to mail it and hope for the best.

I spoke with the Financial Aid Office and they gave me two fax numbers to send over the Student Non-filer Tax Certificate. One uploads it automatically onto their server and the other is processed the old-fashioned way by a human. The FA person I spoke with suggested faxing it to both numbers, but warned that this could take several attempts as their system is jammed with so many people faxing their paperwork in this week. You may get a busy signal on your first attempts. This happened to me but I eventually got the fax to go through with both numbers.

I don’t think I should post the phone numbers here, but please PM me and I’ll give them to you. :)

I don’t know if it’s acceptable, but I actually scanned my w2 (which wasn’t filed) and the tax non-filer form and emailed it to ugrad-finaid@columbia.edu. Hopefully it works, but I’m going to call them tomorrow morning just in case.
