So what gpa does UMDCP look at?

Well i just saw that college park recalculates your gpa? I couldnt find it anywhere but if they use the system where they take out all the electives and add .5 for honors and 1 for AP's i would have a 3.71. So is this the gpa they use to make their decision or the one your highschool reports? If it's this one i would be so happy. ^^

nah i dont think they change it; not every school uses a 4.0 scale, mine is out of 100. The idea that they would change some 10,000 transcripts seems false, but i guess anything could be true

That's a really great question. I think it's a bit idealistic though, because going through 25,000 applications and recalculating the GPA seems like a real hassle. It would be great if they did that though because that would be very fair. Some schools operate on a different set of criteria and Maryland should evaluate it on one single way. In this way every is treated equally no matter what your schools policies are.

wellllll, UMich redoes your GPA so why do you think Maryland wouldn't?just curious.....

I actually truly hope they do. My school doesn't weigh honors courses or college credit courses any differently than regular courses. There is no weighted gpa just an unweighted gpa. The reason that I believe Maryland wouldn't do it is because of the time constraint they are operating on. To recalculate everyone's GPA is such a tedious process. Not only would GPA's have to be recalculated but the application would still have to be reviewed. Honestly I just don't think Maryland would go to all that trouble. I would love to be wrong though. The decision for the priority deadline isn't given out until mid-february to early march. That is rather late for an early deadline, so maybe they just do.

Yeah im basing this off of how UMich does it. Im really hoping they do? because that helps me out alot but if they dont i guess ill just be stuck counting on my SATs :C. Hopefully someone on this forum knows the answer to this question

just because one college does it, doesn't mean UMD does. That's what high school transcripts are for

UMD does recalc to the collegeboard standards., They have to have a standard gpa...otherwise you are not doing a true comparison. In our last school AP was 6.0, in this school it is 5.0. If you look at your collegboard SAT, on the bottom to where you requested the SAT be sent it has your collegeboard gpa, which might not mimic your actual transcript.

Thanks for the answers.
