So what if...

This question is for Dean J or any students from UVa that were in this predicatment,

What if an applicant is wait listed at the University of Virginia. I know that being waitlisted does not garauntee anyone into that school. In the worse case scenario, the student is not accepted after being put on the wait list. Is the student allowed to place their deposit on a school that they were accepted to because they are still unsure if they are accepted or not to UVa?

i sure hope you place a deposit on a school you were accepted to. I wouldn't count on getting into UVa...and its very possible you won't hear until june, one way or another.

Ok that's what I wanted to verify if I was allowed to make a deposit on another school when there is a chance that getting accepted was possible. I am just covering all basis here. I'm sure everyone has thought about this.

By May 1st, you should send a deposit to one school.

If you get off the waitlist at another school and you will to enroll there, contact the original school and send a deposit to the second.

This is part of the normal process. Now, depositing at two schools on/before May 1st is not viewed as honest.

Most waitlisted applicants at any university do not get in. If you're waitlisted at UVA, send in the (non-refundable) deposit to your next choice. If you get off the waitlist at UVA, send in a deposit to UVA and lose the (several hundred dollar) deposit at the other school. The lost money is absolutely trivial in the long run. Sending deposits in to two schools can have your offer of admission revoked at both schools, so do not do that.

What if you send a deposit in to another school to reserve housing (due to rolling admission its a first come first serve basis)?
