is it better to have a diffiuclt course load and get a little over a 3.76, or to take an easier course load (some courses pass/fail) and get a 4.0? will colleges know what courses (like by # or something) are considered more difficult than others??

anyone?? :)

According to my high school its better to take the harder course load. Colleges want to see that you are challenging yourself. Usually the guidance department sends out a profile of your school and indicates the difficulty of the classes that you are taking.

does this happen in college though?? lol

don't know which is better... but i would say that if you're going for an easy course load, skip on the pass/fail courses.

the BEST option is taking a moderate courseload - hard stuff you'll have to take sooner or later, a couple of classes you want to take; you can get by with one W (maybe even two) if necessary, but taking pass/fail courses, especially if you're taking lots of them, gives the impression that you're trying to get by with C-quality work... it kind of belittes a high GPA. it'd look better to take a B and get a 3.8 than get a 4.0 with 3 P's.

and colleges can more or less determine the level of difficulty by the subject matter (organic chem, adv. physics, AND multiv- calc in one semester vs. one biochem course and 4 elective/intro courses).

yeah but that can also be decieving...like my intro to world religions course (200 level) was really difficult, as was my intro to chinese (101).

they won't know unless you tell them

but how would that work? uhhh...just to let you know my course load this semester was really difficult!! lol that seems like i would just want sympathy and giving an excuse for y i didn't get a 4.0!

knock out pre-reqs first if theres a specific program you're applying to, schools want to see that you'll be in and out quick.
