So, what is the profile of the 2008 freshman class

"Higher SAT = Higher IQ"

I agree with this statement! No amount of Social Justice is going to change the simple fact that if we get rid of standardized testing then we will in fact screw over the best & brightest in our state. Until H.Y.P.S.M.C. reduce the importance of this vital admission factor, then the University of Florida and the State of Florida had better not flinch first!

Not bad considering UF enrolls 10,000 more UG's than UC-B or UCLA.
Now knock off 10K?

Those are old, I don't know UCLA's but it's probably not too far behind Berkeley this year and Berkeley's MATH sat range was 650-770 and critical reading was 630-730. UF also superscores while Berkeley and UCLA don't so you could probably add more to Berkeley's and UCLA's range. UF is never going to get rid of 10,000 students. Last time I saw Berkeley had 3 times as many 1500 plus scorers as UF with 2/3 the undergrad population of UF. UCLA has more too. UF can rightfully claim it should be ranked above alot of the publics ahead of it but its not UCLA, and I don't even like UCLA.

Oh god, higher SAT does NOT equal higher IQ.

Grades and how much the student has chosen and successfully juggled throughout their academic career is a good way to start. But some people who have high SAT scores are not at any sort of higher level of thinking, they just know how to take the test.

Especially when you consider that with the ACT, they encourage you to guess because it does not penalize you. Someone could make a high ACT just by guessing on the topics they have no idea about.

No, I do not want to see plain effort rewarded. But thank you for the assumption. You know what they say about assumptions. You can also try to assume that because I posted this, I have low scores and am just bitter about not getting into UF because of them. That would be a wrong assumption, I was accepted into UF and do have relatively good scores. I just chose a school that wasn't so pretentious it overlooked student needs versus how much of a reputation they could make for themselves.

I say an interview process is the only way to truly pick the cream of the crop. And whereas that might take a lot more man power than most universities are willing to give, it would also cut down your precious class size as only those who seem worthy of interviewing would even get a chance.

Sofla.
Of course California has more 1500 testers than Florida.
At 36 million California has twice the population as Florida with 18 million.
When you consider college age students the numbers become even more skewed in Californias favor.

Anyhow, this is just a hypthetical discussion since UF will never knock off 10K.

PS those are old numbers for UF as well. That site however allows the three to be compared side by side.

Yes but Berkeley has 3 times as many with a much smaller undergrad......Florida should have at least half as many with 11,000 more students especially because it doesn't have the competition UCLA and Berkeley have because CA has Caltech, Stanford, and USC to compete for top students. FL has UM, which generally is seen as equal or alittle below UF. Find UF's stats for this year and I bet they won't be near Berkeley or UCLA. To make it fair you should also take into account that UF superscores and subtract 30 from UF's range or add 30 to UCLA/Berkeley. I have nothing against UF, it should be above many publics ahead of it but to say it is near UCLA is starting to get ridiculous.

The new 08-09 common data sets don't come out till January.
We'll have to continue this line then.
Till then the numbers are what they are.

I have a good feeling about the numbers.

UP from 1150-1340 from 2007.

Not too shabby.

I had guessed 1160-1380. Close enough.

Hot off the press- UF's 2008 SAT's 1180-1360

Thanks for the data XNYer. I hadn't seen the break-out before regarding Summer Session admits before...it surprised me the stats are that much lower than Fall admits. I notice on UF's web site, they are now claiming there are no differences in admission standards between the two...I wonder if that is really true.
