So what is truly necessary to get into an Ivy or a prestigious college?

Not by the abnormal CC standards, but realistically what do the credentials look like of someone who gets into a Georgetown or Cornell? Nothing like Harvard or Princeton, since I know those are basically crapshoots no matter how good you look. Yes, good grades, test scores, EC's, etc. etc. but what truly are the requirements?

whoever comes up with the precise formula shall become a multi billionaire in no time.

What abnormal standards do you speak of?

Those are basically the “requirements” to get in. That’s why those schools are so competitive and selective – because there are students like some of those who post on CC.

As the user above me stated, theres no surefire way to determine if a person will be accepted. All you can really do is do the best you can and try your luck.

There are literally hundreds of threads here that address this subject on this site. You can also look at the stats profiles of admitted students. There is no magic formula–or, as MBV says, the person who figured it out would be laughing all the way to the bank.

2400 SAT
4.00 UW GPA
No. 1 in highly-competitive school
25 APs
Recruited Athlete
4000 hours of community service
Mock U.N., Academic Team, Key Club (President of all)
Legacy
Parents have donated 7 figures &/ Father is Dean/tenured professor/ President of US

Drive to one of those high prestige schools (although I suggest public transit for Columbia and Georgetown), park your car, find an entrance to one of the school owned buildings that’s unlocked, and walk inside. You’ve now gotten into an Ivy. Congrats on a job well done.

Hm, those stats SaraCo shared might actually give an individual a safe realm of possibility for acceptance to an Ivy. Maybe.

Almost nothing is necessary, and almost nothing is sufficient. Their admissions are holistic…in general, they look for people who took what life gave them and went way above and beyond what anyone could have expected. They consider your accomplishments in the context of the opportunities you had.

In this context (unlike most others), CC standards are not abnormal.
