college list: Harvard
Yale
Cal-Tech
Stanford
Georgetown
Whitman
Pepperdine
Seattle U

any advice on chances/suggestions for list? thanks in advance!

Cal-Tech - Far Reach
Yale - Reach
Harvard - Reach
Stanford - Reach

Georgetown - Match
Whiteman - Match
Pepperdine - Match
Seattle U - Match

where in WA? I'm there too and I'm applying to seattle U as well.

I think harvard, yale, the ivies are a way reach. You don't have anything stunningly exceptional about your ECs. Although your SATs are very good, they're not spectacular.

sequim WA (olympic peninsula)

that was supposed to be posted by "gandhi" - he was using my account

You live in Sequim? I've got a lot of family in Port Townsend! Do you know where that is?

Eagles Scout helps a lot more than people let on, I've talked to reps from Yale and Pomona, and they both said that they love Eagle Scouts, so you do have a significant EC. Only 4% of Boy Scouts becom Eagles, good job.

I go to Port Townsend a couple of times every year

also, Boy Scouts and my church youth group (which I failed to mention) both include significant amounts of community service

I like your screename, Gandhi! you should get in based on only your good taste in screenames. Gandhi is my hero. Way to go!

if you apply ED/EA:

Harvard-most likely not
Yale-most likely not
Cal-Tech-small chance
Stanford-reach
Georgetown-good shot
Whitman-in
Pepperdine-in
Seattle U-in

If RD, then:

Harvard-no
Yale-no
Cal-Tech-no
Stanford-no
Georgetown-reach
Whitman-probably in
Pepperdine-in
Seattle U-in

actually, only 2% of all boy scouts get to be Eagle scouts. Pomona's a great school by the way

how do you know EA really makes such a big difference over RD?

You've got a great chance at all these schools.

Good luck.

"how do you know EA really makes such a big difference over RD?"

No one really knows, we usually just look at statistics. Usually the more qualified applicants go into EA first, that is why their percentages are higher. (and it shows the student is more dedicated to the school)

thanks

that's pretty much what I thought, although many schools deny giving special consideration to EA applicants

i've been thinking about Cornell recently too.
is that any easier to get into than some of the others?

Try the elite colleges, you are too far up in the ivies
