After reading about all this hostility towards Barnard, I cant help but feel a bit discouraged about the atmosphere at Columbia.

Does this affiliation really affect the whole college experience (compared to colleges w/o affiliations) or are people just exaggerating about the "evilness" of Barnard students?

Barnard students are "evil"? What are you talking about?

Most open hostility toward Barnard is is mostly confined to the internet, where it happily resides alongside conspiracy theories and porn. Columbia students do not grimace at the sight of Barnard students (who can tell the difference anyway?) or loudly denounce them at every turn. The atmosphere at Columbia is mostly laid-back in regard to all such school affiliations.

There is, of course, the occasional malcontent fuming about sitting in a classroom with someone who went through a much less competitive application process, or others who often point out the fact that Barnard is a gender-discriminatory institution. Even the people who hold these views, however, tend to form many Barnard friends and hence keep their mouths shut.

i heard Barnard girls are hot....

sorry, just throwing that out there...
