So what's up with GPAs?

Will someone explain to me what's a good GPA?
I have a 3.90, which just went down from a 3.91. I don't understand why because I only had one B this semester, in Calculus BC.
Oh nevermind, I understand why. I guess I forgot all my elementary math skills and can only take derivatives now.

Anyways, my school college counselor says it's good for any school, but I see tons of people with 3.97s and people saying it's not good enough for Princeton or Stanford.

My schedules:
Freshman-
Hnrs Alg II
AC English
AC History
Adv. Bio
French 3/4
Latin 1/2

Sophomore-
Hnrs Math Analysis
AC English for Sophs
AC History for Sophs
AP Chemistry
French 5/6
Latin 3/4

Junior-
AP Calculus BC
AP Lang
AC History forJuniors (Should have taken APUSH. //failed)
AP Biology
French 7/8
1/2 AP Latin 5/6 (second semester is AP)

Senior (what my schedule should be)
Differential Equations (at local community college)
Short Story
AP Gov + Econ
AP Physics
AP Latin 7/8
AP Studio Art (or AP Music Theory)

Does that look okay, or not enough APs?

3.9 is fine for any of the top schools

^ Yep, end of topic.

Okay, let me rephrase. I was wondering if my schedule is okay too. Colleges look at GPA just as much as they look at the difficulty of your classes since they don’t use weighting (outside of UC and Cal States). : )

Thanks. : D

Yeah, it’s pretty rigorous. You can take more APs if you want but 4 for jr/sr year is plenty. Only thing I would recommend is possibly AP French - you’ve taken 4+ years of it already, why not polish it off with AP?

Rob1995; Oh okay, phew. I know people taking all AP classes so I felt a little underachieving. AP French is something that has been gnawing at me. This year I got a B first semester of French 7/8. A large reason is that more than half of the class is fluent or went to French-American school. The teacher puts a HUGE emphasis on speaking so I struggled a lot. AP French is rumored to be wayyyyyyy more difficult at my school, and the AP test similarly difficult.

Do you think a B and a not so great AP score would affect me? If not, I would go for it. It’s just that since I’ll have AP Latin, is it necessary to have two language APs?

The rigor of your coursework is relative to your HS. Look at the SSR of the CA, your GC will have options for evaluating your coursework as: most demanding, very demanding, demanding, etc.

One or two B’s definitely won’t hurt you, and your schedule looks fine as it is. For APs, you’ll want to aim for 4+ (preferably a 5) if you can. But it looks like you’re a rising senior, in which case it won’t matter except for college credit what you get on your AP exams this year.
