That question has been asked several times, so I thought I’d start a thread for it that people could easily find.

ALL ED decisions are released December 15. What does that mean?

If, and only if, you are an INTERNATIONAL STUDENT- Barnard will send you an email on December 15 (U.S. Calendar/ Eastern Standard Time) notifying you of your decision.

If you are ANYONE ELSE- Barnard said decisions will be mailed (i.e. “snail mail”) on December 15th. I called Barnard Admissions, and two reps confirmed this for me. However, in past years decisions were released a few days earlier, so surprises may be possible.

Please note: Acceptances are large envelopes (cardboard I hear?) sent via priority mail, while defers/rejections are normal paper sent via regular postal service. This means acceptances should arrive sooner than non-acceptances. This also means you can expect a decision somewhere between 1 and 7 (to be safe) days after the 15th, depending on where you live.

I hoped this helped. There is always the possibility that I’m wrong, but I did do my research. Feel free to ask questions or update this thread as you see fit. Good luck!

I don’t know how many New Yorkers are here but I live in Astoria, Queens NY which is pretty much a 15 min car drive from Barnard so more anxiety for me! UGH im scared

They said that letters would be mailed on (as in ON!) the 15th.

The “However, in past years decisions were released a few days earlier, so surprises may be possible.” was my own observation, and had no basis on the conversation with admissions.

just found all of these barnard threads and i am so glad i dont have to wait in agony alone.
i hear that they contact different students via various medias-email, web, phone calls are even possible. my college counselor said that decision will be mailed out by the 15th, but she definitely thinks we could hear anytime after december 11!!

Chocolat, I’m saying this based on past observations. I really don’t think they’ll mail on the 15th. In general, with Early Action/Decision decisions across the board, students should know no later than the 15th.

Indeed, wej, I observed the same thing. My point is, if you haven’t received it by the 15th don’t panic yet! They are entitled to those few extra days.

Looking at past CC threads, the mailing date changes every year. Last year, it was pretty early since the 15th was on a Monday and the office is closed during the weekend. This, year, since the 15th is on a Tuesday, I think it’d be logical if they were to mail on the 14th. (But this Friday would be really nice!).

Does anyone know anything about when the internationals found out in the past? Emails ON the 15th or the same day as decisions were mailed in the States? And I don’t suppose you would know what time the emails go out?

Rebama - I hear that they send the emails out on the 15th as well. I guess it may depend on the situation though; I’m not exactly sure at this point who they’re defining as “international applicants” - students who are classified as international or all students, regardless of nationality, who live overseas.

Thanks. I think that it’s all students, who live overseas. I’m a dual Danish/American citizen, but I live in Denmark, and my interviewer told me that the Admissions Counselor who deals with international students would be reviewing my application. But she also said that I was technically a domestic student (for example for financial aid purposes).

Ahh, same here! I’m an American citizen, but I live in Korea. I’m hearing stories that we get checked by regional admissions officers (like an admission officer for Europe, for Southeast Asia, etc.) - but maybe Barnard is too small for that?

I’m not really sure about that, but I’m sure that whoever reviews our applications are at least somewhat familiar with the school systems, right? The school system here (and especially the way we are graded) is very different than the US one. I hope they know that. :)

I’m the same way. My GPA stinks because I thought IB was the more important score so I didn’t try very hard in my first 2 years of high school. My IB scores are much much much better so I’m hoping the person reviewing my application knows that.

DECISIONS ARE BEING MAILED TOMORROW!
Barnard College: Hang in there early decision applicants. Decisions will be mailed on Friday. Best of luck to all.
