I want to be prepared for first day of class and I was wondering if it would be worth buying the textbooks now and reviewing the first lesson, or waiting until sometime the first week of classes.

Thanks in advance!

That’s actually what I did last year, and will do so this year again. Personally, I think it helps to be prepared for the first couple of lectures, and also beat the rush to buy textbooks.

If you wait until the first week of classes, some books may be sold out and you may have to wait for new shipments or for someone to return it within full-money-back guarantee (if your bookstores have that).

Wait until the first week of classes.

I should have bought my books a couple weeks ago. Now those book prices have rose $25+. -_-
Gah.

e-mail your professor. ask them what books they require. they will usually tell you. then go online and checked for used books and such. and that’s how you get it. don’t go to the bookstore or by word of mouth. sometimes the bookstore has ordered the wrong book or has the wrong book posted on their site so your best bet is to always ask the professor. and i wouldn’t worry too much about the first lecture or even the first few weeks. generally its a bit of reading, but nothing too serious. in fact as you’ll find out, there will be classes in which you can even get by without reading the textbook. textbooks more often than not don’t serve a purpose other than for the school and professors to make extra money.

depends on the class. if I know I need it, I get it asap (used online) for the cheapest price. if I’m not sure, I’ll wait until the 1st or 2nd week of classes.

I just went to my school’s bookstore and bought books I knew for sure that I would need (language class, english class) that were the same price as the ones I would find online (therefore I save money so I don’t have to pay shipping) the rest I’m going to order online later.

I’m holding off on the most expensive ones (astronomy, etc) until the teacher actually says we need it or until I can gauge in class if the notes are good enough for me.

I have 20 books. =(

I just bought mine today… TT_TT my poor bank account. I had to get 14 and i still have one more to track down.
