So when is Early Decision Advantageous?

I was wondering whether early decision gives hopefuls a one up on regular admission. In what case is it better to apply for early decision?

If Penn is your first choice and you don’t need the most competitive of financial aid offers, then ED is ALWAYS advantageous. Everyone who applies in ED benefits.

Some benefit more than others (legacies in particular) but everyone gets a boost.

Not really…

I wouldn’t use it as an application strategy. Also, I would say that it has nothing to do with financial aid offers. Penn still gives many competitive financial aid packages to ED.

ED is always advantageous…it shows that the school is your top choice and that you are committed. EA has no such advantage
