Classes start on the 8th of September...is orientation and move in day the week before that...?

I think move in day is the day before welcome week starts. And orientation is some time during the summer.

i think im going up roughtly 1-2 weeks before the official day of school. to set up everything and get used to the surrounding area. i want to enjoy myself before diving into studies.

:P since i live 30 mins away, i think im just gonna go like a day before.. or something hehe. lucky me

There's a designated move-in day.

oh. then i guess we'll figure out that day when we get all the housing info and whatever else is in that packet. itll be nice to plan out the later end of my summer. i cant ****ing wait for orientation week XD

There is a mandatory 2 day orientation during the summer that you attend. Then there is welcome week which starts the week before school. It is best to move in on move in day to get your selection of bed early and become acclimated to the campus. They do not allow you to move in any earlier than when welcome week starts because any of the summer housing students dont move out till the week before welcome week.

Orientation will depend on which NYU college you're in. Tisch does their orientation during Welcome Week and there is always a CAS orientation session during that week as well, for those who are unable to come to one of the summer sessions.

LSP orientation is also during Welcome Week.

Move-in day is planned chaos. Plan to borrow or buy metal handcarts and use wheeled suitcases. Everything should be very quickly movable as you move forward in the line for an elevator or you will be asked to stand in an additional line for a cart. We had arrived at 7 a.m.and didn't get into the room until close to 9. (@ Rubin)

Stern will have mandatory events throughout the entirety of welcome week, during which you will be split up into cohorts and get to know them, and of course, the big activity at the end of the week.

Orienttion depends on which school of NYU you are attending. For Steinhardt, there were 3 options..one in June, one in early July and one during welcome week (the last week in August--prior to labor day weekend.)

As for move in day (to Weinstein), it went much smoother than I had anticipated as a parent. Kudos to NYU. We arrived during our slotted time window, got a parking spot right in front of the dorm immediately and waited less than 10 minutes for a large cart to haul our items in. We kept doing round-trips with the cart (maybe 3 or 4) until the car was emptied. The lines for the elevators sometimes took a bit of a wait, but never more than 10 - 15 minutes or so per trip up.

I think most students experienced similar situations. We chose a 9am to 11am move in slot.

Now that you mention it, Weinstein looked a lot less frenzied when we passed by it. I know my daughter brought way too much stuff which probably didn't help the situation.

Gallatin has orientation during the end of June. I think it was June 24-26 last year. I wish they would let us know exact dates so I could make other plans. I'm going on a trip but I don't want to buy tickets until after I find out when orientation is exactly :(
Oh well, I can't stay bummed for too long, I'm just too excited to move to NYC!
