Hey, this forum doesn't look all that active at the moment, so I may not get any responses, but whatever. Anyways, I was accepted RD at Wheaton, and I'm currently leaning toward going there. (It's either Wheaton or Kenyon, gotta make a desicion in the next week!). I was just wondering, for any of my potential future classmates, where everyone is from? When I visited on the 22nd, I got the impression that almost everyone was from the New England area...(I'm from RI). I'm not sure I like this, as it would be cool to meet people from all over, not just from the region I grew up in, you know? So anyone want to take part in my little impromptu survey?

My son will be going to Wheaton. We are from Massachusetts. I read somewhere that out-of-state enrollment at Wheaton is over 60%. It may be that many from out of state disn't attend on the 22nd due to time/money/distance constraints.

I'll put in my two cents as an alum...I can see why you'd want to leave the region for college in that you're from Rhode Island, but I'd rather be near Boston than in Gambier, OH.....either way, you'll get a great education.....memorable four years and terrific friendships.... I loved it there.....best of luck to you and MSB, your son, too!

Thanks for your help! Yeah, I've decided while I want to leave NE, Gambier isn't exactly the kind of place I want to get away to, so location is basically a wash for me.

In regard to what MSB said earlier, the out-of-state % is actually over 70 percent, atleast for the current freshman class. I would imagine it is slightly higher for the class of '09. I myself will be a member of that class ;-)

I went to an overnight at Wheaton a few weeks ago, and my roommate was from California, and I met two other people who are from Washington D.C.

I am from PA

Does anyone think that boys have an advantage when they apply?

maybe a slight advantage, I know they are trying to even out the ratio. It's going to be about 40/60 for the incoming class.

I was wondering what the average stats are for Wheaton-they are really not clear on their website. My D may be considering Wheaton entering in 2006-she is def in the top 10%, her GPA around 3.7, and has taken AP and advanced classes in her junior year as well as next year. What is the average SAT score for accepted students?

Wheaton is an SAT optional school. There is a lot of good information about the school here: http://www.wheatoncollege.edu/ir/vitalsigns/ including SATs.

Right-click "Summary version of Vital Signs 2004-2005" then "Save Target As" to download.

well, I can tell you my GPA was 3.0, I only took one AP course, and I got in. So I think youre daughter's chances are very good. I scored a 1400 on my SAT, for what its worth.

Can someone tell me about the diversity/atmosphere on campus? My S and I hope to visit soon but any input would be helpful. I was also wondering how often students go to Boston and how the transportation was. S worry's about being "claustrophobic" but likes what he see on the web site.
Thanks!

Merylinphille... you may want to check out princetonreview.com, they provide a solid profile of Wheaton (and other schools, for that matter) which I feel is more valuable because it doesnt rely as heavily on % of alumni giving, or endowment, both of which usnews gives a great deal of weighting. As for Mattbruze, I feel that his solid SAT scores played a role in evening out his slightly lower (Wheaton av. gpa 3.5 vs his 3.0) GPA and AP courses. Either way, both Wheaton and Kenyon are tremendous schools, so congrats!

Debruns... when i went to the info session and wheaton, the admissions officer said every weekend a bus alternates bring students to boston and providence. i heard from students there, though, that campus life isnt that exciting on weekends.
the campus is really nice, lots of new buildings. the dorms we saw looked pretty old though. the admissions rep said wheaton is building a brand new science building (if your s in interested in science) that will be ready to open in 2010. norton, for the most part, looked empty and boring...

hope that helps.

im from florida!!
