First, let me say that I have really enjoyed hearing all of your opinions and guidance on various subjects. We got alot of insight into the college/conservatory process. This decision has been difficult for son, being a performance major in violin from a relatively 'small pond.' Still, he managed to be admitted to three wonderful programs, and has ultimately accepted a great offer from Univ. of North Texas and will be studying with Ms. B. Would love to hear a recap of where all of our kids are going.. and congrats to everyone!

IU Jacobs School of Music. For such a large school, everyone at both Jacobs and the IU administration has been very helpful and gone the extra mile. OOS/piano.

IU:) jacobs for music ed with percussion emphasis, and hopefully also bio degree. we'll see.

DD will attend Oberlin Conservatory as a voice performance major.

Very impressive! The truly fine schools represented here substantiate many years of hard work and passion by the CC students and support from their loving parents. Congratulations to all!

My DS will attend Eastman School of Music for a BM in trumpet performance. I intend to enjoy the next few months as the happy ending of a long dream, but deep down in my heart I really know the next rollercoaster ride just hasn't started yet!

Son will transfer from Lawrence U to Oberlin as a double degree student for piano performance and English or comparative literature. (depending upon how his credits transfer)

S will attend Manhattan School of Music to major in jazz saxophone performance. He's pretty psyched!

I'm going to Peabody next year for piano performance in addition to another science/engineering degree from Johns Hopkins. Congrats everyone!

D is on her way to Oberlin also - horn performance and physics/math/computation.

S is leaving MSM and transferring into a BA program at state university, because he wants to have a broader education and other professional options at the end of his undergraduate studies.

D is going to New England Conservatory for BM in oboe performance.

Well- not new news, but D will be a SENIOR (I can't believe it) vocal performance major-still at Rice.
Congrats to all you guys starting the journey. Enjoy the ride!

Son transferring to Mason Gross at Rutgers U for music education/tuba.

Just now finished the housing/dining agreement online....just two more years to go!

Son will be a sophomore at IU in trumpet performance, so a couple of you may meet him. :)

...And my son just signed a contract with the Fairfax County, Virginia school district to teach there next year. Unless he's offered the HS job he interviewed for today, or something else comes along in Fairfax during the summer, he'll be teaching General Elementary Music. I know, this is supposed to be a "where is your kid going to school next year" thread, but I thought it might bring hope to hearts to learn that even a kid with a music degree (or in DS's case, 2 music degrees) in Composition can get a job that will actually pay the rent. No, he won't be performing with an orchestra, but then again, composers rarely do. DS discovered the joy of teaching during freshman year, and is really looking forward to convincing hundreds of innocent little minds that music is fun, not geeky, and can make your life happier. Oh, and DS's girlfriend, who was a flute performance major and who just finished her Masters in Arts Administration, today signed a contract to work with the Fairfax Symphony Orchestra (not as a flutist). So allowing your kid to go to conservatory doesn't mean that you'll have to support him/her forever. There is hope!!!

Congratulations to your son on his new job! According to my son, the job he eventually hopes to get playing in a symphony may depend upon people like your son. DS says attendance at symphonies is dropping, and music education in the schools is one thing that could help reverse that trend. If music teachers can get more kids excited about music in all its forms, then there will be more "eager ears" (my son's term) willing to pay to hear people perform music.

Lucky Fairfax! :)

My son is going into second year composition but doing a double degree in government as well. He just got his first big summer job working in a tech department. He is very excited.

Congratulations to everybody. This is really exciting. Susantm has a very good point about the importance of music education for young children. I think it is why Europe's classical music scene has stayed ahead of the US's. (or one of the reasons.) Whenever a parent brought a "less-promising" piano student to me, apologetically, explaining that they knew their kid wasn't going to be a great pianist, but he/she really liked music, I was always thrilled - told them I loved to teach future audience members, too!

On our part, we are happy to say that S will probably get off the wait-list for housing at Juilliard and won't have to live in a NYC apartment next year as we feared.

I'm going to the Cleveland Institute of Music next year to major in Percussion/Timpani performance!!

My S is going to U.of Michigan School of Music. Jazz Program. Congrats to all...Whew, what a year this has been!
