I am! Anyone else? I'm quite excited to do so. prays for acceptance

lol aquamarinee, for all this time, I thought you were an incoming freshman o_O

Haha so did I. Good luck aquamarinee! Break a pencil!

what was NU's ed rate last yr?

Hahahaha, I wish I was an incoming freshman! Well, hopefully I will be? xD I must ask too many questions about NU. LOL

I heard ED rate last year was around 40ish%, right?

I think my daughter is going to apply ED. She's visiting campus this Fall to make certain it's her 100% certain first choice. Our guidance counselor believes she'd get in applying either ED or RD, so a big factor is whether it is best to apply RD and potentially leverage other school's financial awards.

Then again, I'm not sure how much difference ED vs. RD will make for financial aid, I suspect we won't get much either way. I was told that Northwestern does not provide merit aid, only need-based aid - which is an issue for those footing the bill (us.) Also, Northwestern doesn't have a pre-pay/loan plan which locks in the Freshman tuition rate for all four years (as does Washington University in St. Louis, which also offers generous merit scholarships - which we know because our eldest goes there.)

FYI, we were told by Northwestern administrators that the chances with ED are significantly better... as it is at all schools.

Did they happen to provide you with a percentage [acceptance rate] or no?

The very best of luck to your daughter, NUGraduate! :-) And you too, aquamarinee!

I'm going to apply ED next year

I believe last year's was around 43-44%, so by the time I apply, I estimate it'll be around 37-40%.

to be exact on NU ED rate:

1302 apps
573 admitted
44.01% acceptance rate

Remember, NU's policy is to accept or reject, or so I've heard. There arent many, if any, deferrals. Its going to go down this year for sure though.

I'm applying ED to Northwestern this fall...

Lets hope I can get in. I'm trying the "apply to one school, hope for the best, and if that fails, write alot of suppliment essays at the last mine" method...

Thanks, ridewitbd24!

This year will probably be around 40% then. dies I liked it when it was around 50% =]
Oh, and how recent are these statistics? "On the SAT Reasoning Test, the critical reading range was 650 to 730 and the math from 660 to 750."

And I'm still doing all my other applications, just in case I don't get in. I don't want to do all 11 schools last minute... that would be a very bad idea for me atleast.

im applyin ED........ hope i get in

^^Those stats are 2 or 3 years old.

ED acceptance rate for class of 2011 was 44%
RD acceptance rate for class of 2011 was 22%

Mean (not median) SAT score of accepted students was 1,463
Mean (not median) SAT score of enrolling students was 1,423

SAT scores for ED haven't been reported. Overall, ED/RD stats of enrolling students tend to be fairly similar.

I'm applying Early Decision too!

Thanks for the stats. I'm so nervous already... and I haven't even sent in my application! xD

Is anyone sending in a paper application, since common app. locks your application after you send it to just one university?

i'll be applying ED, most likely.

is there a point in doing that? all you really need for your other applications are custom recs. and a new why ____ school essay for each. you could do that outside of the commonapp and just copy/paste when it reopens on dec 15th?

I just wanted to add all of my new test scores and awards... but apparently the locked application doesn't let you edit that part.
