yup...no financial aid for me. Im going to go to UCLA this fall...so prolly looking at 17K each year (for two years hopefully)....I hope it's worth it at the end.

I'm not getting any from WashU, though my parents are going to negotiate. At least yours isn't 45K a year!

wait..so even if you don't qualify for fin. aid....negotiations can reduce the amount?

A lot of schools will give you a grant or something if you call and explain your situation. You can also "pit" one school against another if you've gotten a better deal from one school. (Keep in mind that this is if you're a desirable candidate).

are you instate? 17k is so cheap!!! Suck it up

cheap? not really...

Uh, yeah, really.

O RLY?

sorry, i couldn't resist... lol

similae situation. Never ever gotten financial aid and won't get any now.

Only difference is I live close to UCLA so i won't have to move.

Still have to pay for tuition and all other good stuff. :(

if you get no financial aid, your parents can obviously afford it. If they refuse to pay for your education, its not the schools fault.

International Student.

'nuff said.

:'(

and I mean that, I do cry over it. Or at least I'm sure I will when, and if I, get accepted and would be unable to attend because of $$$$ (or lack of it).

tuition is fine...dorm is expensive

to that guy who said your parents can afford it is full of it.
i dont know how you got 17k as a figure (unless you haggled it down from the university yoruself), the posted average is 24k a year with everything included. my parents make 100k a year, and after taxes its 80k. 80k where I'm living (bay area) is not alot by any means, I live in a modest house which costs around 400k and its morgaged. one of the reason I stayed behind a 2 years is to save money. Now suddenly, they lose another 24k just for me? with the 24k I'm using up, they could a new car every year I'm in school. So don't say its "affordable" for those who don't receive financial aid, everyone has to suck it up and curb their spending. After morgages on the house and all the other expenses, its hard to save up anything.

Sorry to sound like an ass but my experience with financial aid is a good one. They do a good job in accomodating my needs. My parents saved a bit for college and we were pleasantly surprised that almost all my expenses were going to be covered by financial aid + scholarships. All i'm saying is that with careful planning / saving college is easily affordable. Your parents make a good amount of money so they aren't eligible for aid.

^^ thats cause YOU are getting the aid....

Wing has the right idea, but taxes are usually 33% of the income...

So if ur parents make 100K, they are proly taking home around 77. If they are still paying mortgrage+prop tax etc, like lets say $2000-3000 a month, thats $24K - $36K.

Ok. SO now they are left w/ ~44K. They want $17K of it for tuition at least. So that leaves $27K.

But I've seen parents who make 65-80 gross get zero financial aid.

Trully unfair.

even if i weren't getting aid my parents would still be able to afford college.. instead the money will go to grad schools / downpayment on housing...

all i'm saying is that if your parents are making that much money they could have easily put away 3-5k a year for 8 years towards your education

then u're lucky Hobo... But doesn't mean u can't be Compassionate to students who are in worse situations...

sorry, look at my edit, i think i explained myself better.

Instead of gross income they should give financial aid based on net income...if they did that I would be gettin fin aid right now...they should also take into account that expenses in CA is totally different from somebody who lived in say Arizona...for a two bedroom apartment where I live 1400 is the minimum....I used to live in KY and a three bedroom there barely crossed 750...however, financial aid is calculated the same regardless of location
