just got my acceptance letter today. im really excited, and am especially looking forward to visiting in april. one question though, did everyone only get $100 towards their transportation costs? my sister when she applied 3 years ago got free transportation for this minority recruitment weekend, while now im only getting a $100 deduction. just wondering if its the same for everyone else.

Congrats on your acceptance!! When is Mosaic weekend and did you apply RD?

Yeah I got my mosaic letter too. This trip is going to be a blast.

I'm also going to MOSAIC. I applied RD and I'm really happy I got in already. I wasn't expecting it till April.

Yes, I also got $100 deduction.

i also got accepted and i was wondering how valuable this mosaic weekend really is because i have plans to be somewhere else that weekend but they can be changed if mosaic is really worth it..has anyone heard good/bad things about it? thanks

What is MOSAIC? Is it for all newly accepted students?

its march 17-20...kind of disappointing cause its st patricks day, i was supposed to go to the parade. oh well hopefully there will be some cool st patricks day themed parties that weekend. and yes, i applied RD. mosaic weekend is the minority recruitment weekend, thus only minorities are invited.
to holla- my sister went to the weekend 3 years ago and had an awesome time, she was reeeally close to going to vanderbilt cause she liked it so much when she went down there. if i were you i would change my plans unless theyre something important, this weekend should be fun.

I went to MOSAIC two years and I had a blast (especially since I had a cool host). They treat you almost like royalty. I would encourage anybody who's even slightly interested in Vandy to go. The thing is that it's for minorities only--Blacks, Hispanics, Asians (who, relative to other colleges, are URMs at Vandy), and Native Americans (the rarest of rare at Vanderbilt). Just one of those things were its sucks to be white. (Though one of guys in hall last year was white but 1/4 Puerto Rican, so he was invited, but didn't go, to MOSAIC)

(I'm guessing that they're only give $100 deductions because transportation costs are so expensive. I'm pretty sure if transportation will be a big financial burden for you and you ask them they'll reimburse you for your full transportation cost.)

does being invited to MOSAIC in any way mean that you have greater chance of receiving any merit scholarhip?

i think all accepted minorities are invited to MOSAIC.

hey I'm going to MOSAIC as well. It should be a great experience. See all of u guys there! Oh, btw, how many ppl. go to MOSAIC?

if i am a minority and i applied to vandy and have not received an acceptance letter yet, would you say it's safe to say that i got rejected?

i dont know chris, i feel like im in the same situation with Duke, theyve apparently invited people to some minority weekend? but i wasnt invited. i have no idea if that means that you havent gotten in or that they just havent looked at your app yet.

My S just returned from the Rice "Vision" weekend. He wasn't impressed. It may have been the bad weather in Houston, but he was also disappointed with the general lack of interest in varsity sports, the lack of athletic/recreational facilities (what really matters!), and bad food in the dorms.

Anyway, his interest in Vandy has been revived. We believe that Rice and Vandy are comparable academically, so he is looking at quality of life factors to break the tie. He hasn't heard anything yet from Vandy. Would it make sense to solicit an invitation for the MOSAIC weekend?

I'm not sure what they'd say to somebody asking to be invited. On the one hand, they may see this as evidence that your son is really interested, or they could interpret it as being pushy. If you are so bold (I don't mean that in a bad way), then go ahead and see what happens.

Is the invitaion sent by post, fed ex, e-mail? Are minority students(that is, international students) living abroad invited too?

I actually am that bold. However, after going to Rice last weekend, he is scheduled to go to Morehouse next week. If he goes to Mosaic, he will miss too much school in a short period.

If he gets accepted, we will visit during his Spring break.

You dont want him missing too much school, so maybe its for the better. Actually, (and this for everybody) the down side of MOSAIC is that since its all minorities, you get this false sense of the population make up of Vanderbilt. The difference between MOSAIC and SAOP is staggering.
