unc in seriously incapable of updating their portal. they are seriously slacking, ive had great support from every other college except this one. good job unc.

They are undergoing major upgrades in some of their admissions technology processes and apparently are also seeing a record number of applications which isn’t helping things. The folks in admissions aren’t intentionally slacking. Check some of the other threads for posts from Mr. Farmer, the head of admissions.

applied EA. instate + legacy, 4.71 W GPA, 1370/2060 SAT, 750 and 670 on SAT IIs, top 2% in class of 600, decent ec’s and essays … nervous. can’t wait til the end of January!!

sports_guy - You have a better chance then most!

^I agree, being in state really helps, doesn’t it.

Hey guys!!
I was recently accepted at UMich, but …
I am SOOOOO nervous when decisions come out Jan. 30. Good luck everyone!!!

I applied EA at unc. I’m in state, so ill hopefully get in.

I applied EA and I’m eagerly awaiting. I’m instate, legacy, 4.47 weight gpa, 8 APs, and 1340 SATs (690 M, 650 R). I feel decently about my app but I’m white and male so who knows?

I applied in-state EA with a 4.8 weighted GPA, 3.97 unweighted, 35 ACT and 9 APs.
Tecniqually, UNC is my safety school since I am in-state and it is sooo much easier that way. It’s actually the only in-state school I applied to, which is what makes it my safety.
However, I’d still love to go there! I’ve got a very deep-blooded UNC family; Dean Smith actually wrote me a letter of rec. My biggest concern is getting stuck in a “bubble” at UNC because basically 50% of all students in my city end up there or at NC State. Any other in-staters know what I’m talking about?

Anyway, good luck to everyone, especially OOSers!

^ OOS. I’m in over my head though.
No “love letter” in the mail.
Had to Google Dean Smith after reading abcde’s post.
If I wanna tar heel, I will have to walk on a Texas beach.
Best of luck to everyone else.

^
Tar. From oil rigs. Washes up on our beaches. You step in it and have to wipe it off or it will f-up the car mats.

Haha, Dean Smith is really more UNC basketball knowledge than simple school knowledge. Legendary if you’re a fan though!

abcderinkay:

I know what your talking about. At my instate high school most of people in the honors/AP program apply at State and Carolina, and eventually go to one of the two.

Anyone else havin’ a sweet tea and carolina barbecue partayyy if they get in OoS? I LOVE THAT STUFF. If I was a Tarheel i’d probably become more addicted than I already am :P

I am so disappointed. Chapel Hill has lost both of the recommendations that I have sent and is requesting a third one. Funny thing, the other forms were in the same package and this is the only thing to be lost?

Hi Everyone! I am OOS and i applied EA for Chapel Hill
*i want to major in business
*My GPA is 4.52 (weighted)
*ACT is 33 composite
*7 AP classes total (including 3 I am taking this year)
*school does not report class rank
*Varsity Swimming all 4 years, NHS member, student leader of youth group, etc.

I was wondering if UNC CH is a big reach for me? Iam also applying to Ohio State, University of Virginia, University of Illinois, and i have been accepted to Indiana University.

I tried to make my essays stand out by adding humor and wit, they aren’t as serious as essays i wrote for other applications. Was that a mistake?

My birthday is January 30th so hopefully i will get some good news then :)

Thanks!

Not a big reach, I think it will be tough since you’re OOS but you’ve got a decent shot.

@JamesJr - That’s a shame. I have been somewhat disappointed with their organization thus far, both with the admissions office itself and their online resources.

@jjk, your stats give you just as good a shot as any other OOSer!
And judging by the essay topics themselves, I’m sure UNC adcoms appreciate some humor and wit in the essays, which gives you an even better shot.

okayy i have heard from people that i will get in and that i have no shot. i’d love to hear what others think!!

OOS (live in VA)
4.79 weighted GPA, 4.0 unweighted
1380 SAT
eight APs and three i took last year (APUSH - 5, AP Eng - 4, AP Calc - 4)
so many ECs it’s ridiculous but my top ones are yearbook editor-in-chief, varsity lacrosse captain for 2 years, and school treasurer
ranked 12/428 in a pretty competitive school
four varsity letters

thoughts? thanks!! and good luck to everyone!
