Has anyone who did not receive their finaid package in the mail been able to check it on OASIS??

We show only unsubsidized Stafford loans on Oasis. Not feeling the love, USC. And UCLA keeps whispering in our ear…

12layla12: Yup, I could check mine.

waaaiit.
Did we have to mail them our a copy of our tax returns?

30k grant n finacial aid. wow

Sara…h Yes, you were supposed to submit parent’s tax return and student tax return or student non-filing form. You can check oasis /fin aid link and see if you are missing documents. You can always call Fin Aid office too.

usc2013, what kind of EFC did you have?

my FAFSA EFC is around 5k but i only got 38k in grants/scholarships and 8k in loans/work-study. leaving me with 8k to pay IF i do take the loans/work-study. except i don’t really want to… so i would need to pay around 16k?

pinkie1105

2009-10 Undergrad Estimated Cost:

$37,096 Tuition
598 Mandatory fees
11,298 Room and board
796 Books and supplies
1,600 Personal and Miscellaneous
580 Transportation
$51,968 Total

minus your $38k in grants and loans = $13,968 remaining before loans and work study.

I’m still waiting on my package and I am curious is the money you guys are getting mostly merit aid or need based, as in scholarships or grants?

i juss finished sending in my docs today, does that mean i wont get a good fin aid packet?

Priority is given to those who can google “USC Financial Aid”. :p

happy sunflower,
If you live anywhere close to the SC campus, I suggest you make an appointment with a financial aid officer. Others have posted this appears to help them understand your
particular situation. Be sure to bring all financial records and tax records.

mannnn i got 4k on scholarship and 5.5K iin loan damnnnn
i dont want to pay 44K to go to USC…:(

Okay, Georgia girl. I have been thinking about it more. It’s worth a shot for us. We have a friend who used to work for USC in admissions and we are going to talk to him today. I do think there are things not in our financial aid forms that do not really explain our financial situation as it really is--

However, we are feeling the love from UCSB…so we will see…

We do live close by to USC too…so I think it would be worth it to give it a try. Thanks!!!

happy_sunflower, it might be worth it to look for a few “comps” (recent home sales in your zip code that are about the size of your house). Also check current listings on any foreclosed homes in your zip code. If you can find several that show a significantly lower value (if you filled out the Profile even just a few months ago, things may have changed) that reduces your equity, you could show those to the finacial aid rep at your meeting.

In any case, congrats on the full-ride offer at the other school! I am sure you are very proud!!!

People on Financial aid section on CC said to use this calculator for calculating home equity.
[FinAid | Calculators | Federal Housing Index Calculator](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid)

That calculator hasn’t been updated (it even says “uses 2006 tables”) for our current housing situation and is still using an increase in value every year since purchase. For example, homes purchased in 2006 are valued at their purchase price, and most of the homes in our area that were purchased in 2006 are worth about 1/2 that amount. When I enter my home into it, it gives a value $200,000 higher than its current market value. That is why I suggest bringing documentation (recent sales in your zip code are excellent documentation) to establish a more accurate home value. USC is in California, so I am sure the representatives are very aware of the huge drop in home values here and the resulting difficulty in trying to borrow against equity to fund education.
