I scheduled my tour on the 17th; then I got the idea to reschedule it on the 24, since me, my dad, and my mon would all be off on that day (as opposed to my mom asking for a sick day and my dad skipping work that day); so, I canceled my 17th tour, but then I found out that on the 24th, there are no tours (I guess they comemorate the armenian genocide too); so now, I have to reschedule again (probably on the 17th again).

UCR actually has a # of rankings in the princeton review; however, most of them are of the bad kind (unhappy students, professors who make themselves scarse, TAs teaching too many classes, etc...)

dammm... looks like we all in the same boat.. Im also stuck in between UCR and UCSC... tell me what you guys will choose..

i visited both campuses and here is what my positives and negatives:

UCR Positives:
Diverse student body
not far from where i live ( i gues this is only good for me lol)
YOU CAN CREATE UR OWN MAJOR!!
A crazzzyy Gym

UCR Negatives:
Alot of negative rumors around it
Its basically in the middle of the desert
Can get boring

UCSC positives:
Very Pretty campus
By the beach
Ranked higher then UCR Lol
Its student body is ranked 6th in the nation for fitness by "Mens health" magazine
2nd largest UC (first being UCD)

UCSC Negatives:
On a hill.. so not that easy with a bike
Rumors about Drug problems
Rumors about STD problems
over 50% of student body is WHITE!!
far from where i live ( again.. only for me i guess)

U guys can list the rest but thats what i got out of the tours.. and the tours only thats why i clearly said "Rumors" ,

im still stuck in between so replies would be helpful

I think you can create your own major in UCSC too. Don't worry about the drugs problem; every college has them. It depends which crowd YOU choose to hang out with. I was a bit scared about the white percentage before too, but now I have talked to a couple of asian people going there. So I don't think it matters that much :/ There must be someone in the whole college with the same background as you.

Be sure to check out older threads, Matt. Many of us had discussed the rumors (drugs, racial). I would definitely choose UCSC over UCR. I didn't like the vibe I got from UCR. But again, I'm visiting UCSC next week so I can't judge yet. Out of curiosity, are you asian? (since you emphasized the white population there ;D)

Haha. I live in LA, and it's about 6 hours for me too!

UCSC is very laidback and chill; and since you are persian, I think you have no problem fitting in with the whites. Anyways, I think it is the place for you :)

As much as I love UCSC, I decided this weekend that I am going to Cal. Having said that, I plan to take advantage of the weekend shuttles between Cal and UCSC and hope to see all of you there, if I can find someone to lend me some floor space!

my friend just chose sc over cal. but i definitley have many friends @ cal i have to visit. How far is UCSC from Cal? Is taking the bus the easiest way?

UCSC has the LOWEST proportion of adjunct faculty of all the UC campuses. UCR is the worst of the UC campuses in most ratings -more than a few state colleges are better - Cal Poly, CSU San Diego, Chico, etc.
