I haven't made up my mind yet, I'll have to wait until April when I receive the rest of my decisions, but I was just wondering if there's anyone here who has already definitely decided on UMich.

Good thread College_hopeful. With your 3.9 GPA and 1480 SAT score, you will probably have a couple of options.

Come on people...look alive! LOL I know of about 75 of you who got acceptances so far...let us know which ones of you are definitely joining the Wolverine family...and if not sure yet, list your your universities in order of preference.

Here is a list of people who have been accepted. I want you all to let us know where you stand. NOW!!! hehe

I find out from Claremont Mckenna later this week...if I get accepted there then I am definately going there.

I am most likely going to get rejected from both Dartmouth and UPenn.
I have a good shot at JHU. But I think I'd prefer Michigan anyways. I'm not a fan of Baltimore and it' s a little too close to home.

I am definately choosing Michigan over both UMD-CP, and PSU.

So yeah Michigan looks good :)

probably wont go to michigan....got into Rice!

Now that I'm finally out of school... :)
I don't know yet. I'll know in about a month. Right now it's:

1.) Northwestern
2.) Michigan
(I already sent in the letter to Michigan State stating that I won't be attending next year.)

I love both of my prospects so I know that I'll be happy either way, but as of now, I think Northwestern might be a slightly better fit for me (we'll see if they agree with me in March.).

To explain myself slightly... This is just a very small portion of my reasoning right now.

1.) I have a huge vision disability, and Michigan is huge. I'm slightly scared I'll get hit by a car or something (even though I know that could happen at the other, but NU is smaller). If I do go there, I might need some back up help and a buddy group slightly quicker than usual. :)
2.) There's a smaller student body at NU, and it'll be easier to get to know the faculty. Plus, I know it's really easy to switch majors over there (even though I also know that's similar at Michigan).
3.) I love Chicago. I've been in Ann Arbor a little too much going to eye appoints on a frequent basis (an hour to an hour and a half drive each way). It slightly taints the image as a whole.

Reeses, most of your reasons make perfect sense. A couple of points though:

1) Getting to know the faculty at any major research university is next to impossible...and Northwestern will not give you an edge in that regard.

2) Although I too love Chicago, for college students, Ann Arbor is more fun...especially when compared to Evanston.

Alexandre - I know that I won't be able to know most of the faculty anywhere that I end up next year. Heck, I don't know most of the teachers at my home school (not including the Math and Science Center - I know basically everybody there since it's so small). However, I still think it would be nice to somehow (stress somehow) get on good terms with maybe one or two adults so that there would be at least someone around that would be able to keep an eye on me (and maybe get suspicious if I don't show up somewhere one day).

On the Ann Arbor thing... What's there? I haven't seen the entire area over there so I really don't know. I'm just curious because I haven't really heard too much about it. I don't know. This may need a whole new thread.

I didnt make alexandre's list of allstars, but i was accepted and barring any unforseen circumstances, i will be roaming the streets of Ann Arbor next year!

Jarell, sorry for having missed you. I am glad you decided to join the Michigan family.

Reeses, Ann Arbor has several quaint streets filled with bars, cafes, bookstores, restaurants and hangouts filled with students and professors. It is a very intellectual little city and it is geared to suit students. As a professional, Chicago may be more appealing than Ann Arbor. However, as a student, I think Ann Arbor is more pleasant.

reeses, I know you have a bunch of factors to consider, and i won't presume to make up your mind for you.

However, let me reassure you on the vision thing. As with any large university, there is a population of students on campus with various visual impairments. The University takes an interest in making sure they can still have a full University experience (it has a dedicated office for services for students with disabilities). They're there to help students get oriented, make preparations for special course materials, get access to large screens in the computer lab, etc. They also send out construction alerts and other things to their patrons so changes in routes are known about in advance. There are several blind students I see around here all the time, one with a dog, the others with canes. One of the blind graduate students I had in a class actually JOGS in Ann Arbor--I think that's gutsy, maybe crazy, but he claims it's doable.. Another one of my classmates is not fully blind but pretty impaired, and he went through a JD/PhD program and it still alive to tell about it. He continues to serve on the board that advises the students-with-disabilities office.

The city has continued to add improvements to make street negotiation more friendly--like walk signals with sounds. The buses 'talk,' stuff like that. I am sure someone else could tell you more about stuff like this. My main point it, I wouldn't let a vision problem influence your choice too much. Michigan is big, but that doesn't mean you'd be lost here.

im a definite goer!
can't wait to attend!!!

Hoedown and Alexandre - My left eye has a vision of about 20/40 (third nerve palsy), and my right eye has a vision of about 10/300 (nystagmus) - corrected with glasses. Basically, I use my left eye for most of my seeing, but i still run into stuff sometimes. So far in my life, very few people have had to realize the extent of my problem (they just know that I can't see very well) because I don't act nor really look any differently than anybody else. I believe that maybe only two to three of my teachers at both of my high schools know about my full problem as well as my guidance counselor (because we told them). Other than that (as well as some of my friends knowing - I'm not even really sure they understand completely), I'm just basically another kid at school.

I know this is about to change drastically for next year so I'm very happy to hear that Michigan has a lot of help available to me if I end up going there. It's slightly a relief. However, I think that I have my mind made up as to what I'm going to do under each of the possible cases that may happen in March.

Reeses, you should definitely go with your gut. And don't worry...I run into things all the time too. My vision is ok, I am just clutzy! LOL My first day at Michigan (this is a true story mind you) I walked into a particular classroom (1800 chem) for the first time and I was so involved with reading the school newspaper (the Michigan Daily) that I did not bother to look in front of me. Well, 1800 chem is an amphitheater...I triped and fell down a bunch of steps (at least 2 dozen!) LOL I was ok though...and I even got a standing ovation for falling with destinction! hehe I tell you, we Wolverines are an accomplished bunch. Just ask Hoedown!

Alexandre - LOL!!! That chem. room is huge. I've been in it before (it's the one with the huge periodic table on the wall, right?). It's very pretty but HUGE. You sure that you're all right? I can just picture someone falling down those steps... Ouch!

Are you kidding...of course I am all right. I am an Arab. We bounce right back! Luckily, the steps in 1800 Chem are actually not that hard and well spaced, so I did not hit any sharp edges. And yes, it is the room with the period table.

With my luck, I'd hit a sharp edge.

Then hopefully, you will gain admission to Northwestern and we will not have to worry about 1800 Chem!

Eh... With my luck, I prolly won't even get accepted. Even if I do, who's to say that I'll never walk the Michigan campus again (I haven't gone to Campus Day yet...)? :)

i'm definitely attending michigan, i sent in my deposit about a month ago...go blue!!!
