Hey y'all, did any of you guys send in your appeal or is planning to appeal to UCSB?

well hopefully they give you my spot! i declined admission today, sadness :(

so what school will you be attending

hopefulllyy! :( why did you decline UCSB?

Probably because he got into one of the many better schools (to him) out there.

if you're planning on appealing and really want to go to UCSB any way you can, see my earlier post (in this forum) on the backdoor way into UCSB.

I am going to UWisconson-Madison because I get in-state tuition there. I really was hoping for some beach time next year :( Sadly, I have to remain in the coldness that is the midwest

I sent in my appeal about a week and a half ago. My status on the website where we logged in to check our initial application status now has reverted from Decision: Denied to Decision: Pending. I heard we won't hear until after May 1, the wait is killing me!

Ahhh, same here! I'm in the decision pending zone too :( Geeesh, this is going to kill me! I want to know now!

I appealed. I got into both Davis and Irvine so I have some high hopes for SB. I am not sure if I really want to go though.

why do you say that cliff? is SB academically ranked higher than UCI or UCD? or is SB more selective than UCI and UCD

I declined my admission today. Good luck people!
:)

Oh, this is like the application process all over again! If anyone's appeal is granted, feel free to share it here :) Even if your appeal is rejected, too. I'd like to know when everyone starts to receive their response. I hear it's somewhere late April or early May. Good luck everyone!

cliffdive, if youre not sure about going to SB then whats the point of going through all the trouble of appealing? your appeal may effect someone else's who really wants to go into SB.

Because I want to and I have the privilege of doing so? It was no trouble at all. Like I said, that was only my idea. I like having options open to me.

why do you say that cliff? is SB academically ranked higher than UCI or UCD? or is SB more selective than UCI and UCD

UCD is 2 ranks higher than UCSB and UCI is tied with SB. I would think SB is less selective than UCD but more selective than UCI.

im appealin!!

AWW!! I hope one of you guys gets my spot!!!! Best of luck!

"UCD is 2 ranks higher than UCSB and UCI is tied with SB. I would think SB is less selective than UCD but more selective than UCI."

Thats not true. UCSB is the fourth most selective UC, ahead of all other mid-tiers.

Proof? I have never heard of this being the case at all. As much as I want to be accepted into UCSB and it would make me feel better to know that they are the most selective, there is no way that they are the most selective of the mid-tier UCs.

University of California - Admissions

This site has everything (I'm not counting San Diego as mid-tier. It lies somewhere in the limbo between top and mid)

2007 Admission Rate

Davis: 58.2%

Irvine: 55.4%

Santa Barbara: 54.2%

From my anecdotal experience of 2008, this trend continues. I have a lot of friends who wanted to go to SB but have to settle for Irvine or Davis, but none vice versa. Not that it never happens (it's happened to some people on this forum), but the trend definitely seems to be that UCSB is still the most selective mid-tier.
