So whose kid brought home a BS +1 ?

We’ve always been the house to host out of towners that need a place for Thanksgiving. Wondering how many we’ll have once lizardkid starts BS. Totally looking forward to it.

I regret that ChoatieKid never did, partly due to distance (if a kid could travel to stay with us, s/he could probably travel back home), partly because his BS family was what he was trying to get a short break from. :frowning:

DS has the previous two years, but not this year. His first year he brought home his roommate from Mexico, and last year a spaniard. This year his former roommate from Mexico is doing SYA in France, and no one else asked for a place to crash. It was nice to host them. Hoping his little sister can similarly make close friends from around the world next year.

As one living overseas, I am very grateful to the families that took me in over Thanksgiving when I was in BS. :slight_smile:

You can host/be hosted for fun even if you don’t need to.

I didn’t go to BS but am eternally grateful to the families who hosted me for holidays and long weekends when I was in college…

We hosted a lot of kids for holidays and breaks over the years and it was just the best! It was just so much fun to get to know their friends and have the extra energy in the house. One young man who spent spring break with us during K2’s senior year ( along with six other kids… ) joined us for Thanksgiving yesterday . When he stayed with us during spring break he broke a plate and “House Rules” are if you break a plate you get a paper plate. No one freaks out … you’re just handed a paper plate and we go on with our lives. Flash forward to this Thanksgiving and K2 hands him a paper plate while they’re standing in line for dinner and tells him : My mother never forgets. :wink:

If you have room and the opportunity to host a BS friend or two- definitely go for it. :slight_smile: My kids really enjoyed their visits with other families. Big shoutout to day student families for weekends and providing home away from homes, too. Some of the day student moms were like second moms to my kids - just amazing! One DS mom used to bring K2 hot chocolate on cold winter mornings or make his favorite breakfast wrap and drop it off with her son at his dorm … just the best. :slight_smile:

We’ve hosted plenty throughout boarding school, then college, and now even post college. My recent college graduate brought 2 home for Thanksgiving this year (one a recent immigrant for his very first American Thanksgiving! We’re honored to share it with him.) And for Christmas, we’ll have a different friend guest. It’s a lot of fun and we do really enjoy it although sometimes I do miss having a little time that is just immediate family. That said, I’m happy that our kids feel comfortable bringing their friends home and that their friends love coming here.

We had a plus 1 from Singapore this Thanksgiving which was great because my younger daughter had a bff to hang out with until her big sister came home from college. More fun for everyone!

Anyone notice the visitors act the way you want your kids to act?

@Garandman always!

We frequently had +1/2/3 when DS1 attended. We had +1 from college for Thanksgiving this year. I really enjoyed getting to know some of DS1s classmates.
