So why did you decide to apply to Barnard? (class of 2010 kids)

The app date is over, I’ve sent mine in so it’s not like I need essay tips.

I love the location and how it’s single sex but in a metro place so it’s not always single sex.

I also liked the special major options.

You?

I liked that Barnard is an all women's college, but that there is also the choice of meeting and interacting with men. I like Barnard's emphasis on cultural and global interaction. I like the atmosphere at Barnard and just about everything about it. Anyone else?

Same. I couldn't go to an all girls school in Utah or something, since NYC is so cosmopolitan it's fine.

I contemplated applying to Bryn Mawr too.

^ Did you end up applying to Bryn Mawr, too? I'm applying to 5 women's colleges..4 on the east coast. Barnard, Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, Smith..and they all seem to have a different feel to them, but Barnard's my first choice. I'd love to live in the NYC! and the fact that the men aren't too far away is nice, too

At the last minute I didn't however I did apply to swarthmore so if i get in there... i can take classes at bryn mawr

i did not know wellesley was all girl :D

Barnard is the best of both worlds: it's a close-knit women's college surrounded by my favorite city. It just seems very intellectual and cosmopolitan to me without a larger school's tendency to lose undergrads in the shuffle. Hopefully I'll see you all next year : )

research opportunities, interrelated activities and classes with columbia, CITY, doesn't feel like all-girls, etc.

also applied to swarthmore and wellesley as well!

I applied to swarthmore too :D

I applied to women's colleges mainly because it offered a great education with a better chance of getting in as opposed to other LAC's like Swarthmore. I applied to Bryn Mawr, Wellesley and Barnard. Barnard would be my first choice because its in New York and its affiliated with Columbia. Next would be Bryn Mawr because its close to Philly and has connections with many other colleges in the area. Lastly, I'd choose Wellesley. The other women's college students told me that Wellesly had a less community-oriented feel. Also, Harvard and MIT guys don't sound as appealing compared to NYU and U Penn guys.

lol, nyu guys.. ha.. what about columbia men?? did you not consider them in your app? i mean, it's great if you didnt, but really, nyu guys.. lol :)

exactly! harvard boys would be pretentious.

although i know a highly attractive guy at mit. but eh he has a girlfriend

or older men..... hedge fund managers? only in nyc....

we're no gold digging shifts eyes
