so.. why do you want to go?

for anyone who's applying to a boarding school, care to explain why? Not meaning that offensively, I really am curious.

For me it's because the school I currently go to, though excellent in the college and boarding school applying world, doesn't seem to really give all that I want from an educational place. That said, there aren't too many teachers that teach well, peers are not as well-rounded as mature people who might be more common to find in a boarding school, and in general life stuck in asia kind of sucks.

Anyone care to share their reasons? :)

I'm applying to boarding school because I like the fact that I will be living with a bunch of kids that hopefully will become my good friends, have small classes where the students are excited to learn, and lively class discussions taught by interesting professors. With the smaller school environment, I will be able to try out for different sports and other extra curricular activities (plays, for example), take on leadership roles, and generally be able to participate in a variety of activities that wouldn't be available to me in my current (quite large) high school. I am interested in making friends with kids from all over the United States and far away countries.

I think by living away from home, I will have a beter understanding of who I truly am, plus feel a little more independant than I do right now, living under my parents roof.

KitKat, you should send that to your schools!
:)
I totally agree with everything you said, at my middle school no one really cares what you do.
I can't even imagine being at boarding school and having my own advisor!
That seems to amazing.

wow KitKat.you nailed it!
that was a pretty right on the money answer

60% academic
10% athletic
20% social
10% opportunities

Opportunity! I would have the chance at great academics, great extracurriculars, and great opportunities.

I want to go because:
1) I can try new languages that I'm really interested in (Arabic and Russian), as well as a ton of humanities electives that are perfect for me

2) Sports--I want to start crew and squash and keep up with tennis and/or soccer.

3) While I was at Andover Summer Session this summer, my relationship with my parents was so much better. We rarely fought and talked everyday for about a half an hour.

4) The kids are pretty cool lol

5) Boarding

6) Opportunities to go abroad for a term

7) New England

8) 92384923948 breaks a year lol

hey i am new, i really like this site. I am happy to see i am not the only one completely obsessed with this whole process

I want to go because:

The academic environment is interesting and rigorous. All of the classes seem great

The campus is amazing with beautiful buildings and scenery. The facilities are top notch

The school provides the sports I play that my current school does not

The kids are so much more complex, welcoming, and fun to be around compared to the kids at my current school.

I am drawn to all of the clubs and student publications. Every club does worthwhile activities

The dorms would be so fun to live in- I would probably be much closer with my parents if I were to have a much more independent lifestyle

I want go because I am the youngest of three and want to prove to my family, who cares soooo much about all of us, that i can really go somewhere in life, and not just retire to a beach home at the age of eighteen. [ cough, my two older sisters..]

also, i am so excited for the outcome of my future, and i want great success in my life. I want to go to a great college, and move back to new york, not only to be where i am, but to have a great job as a journalist, which ive aspired to be for years.
Boarding school is something that can prepare me for not only college, but also for life, and since i want such a successful one and care so much, i think it would be important for BS to be a step in the right direction.

My public high school [not that theres a private one anywhere close..] is not academically challenging, the people are all extremely immature, and only 30% of the class ends up graduating. From k-12, you are stuck with the same people, schools never morph together because there are no other schools to morph into. I do not respect anybody above me, because the most popular/wellknown/liked kids in the highschool are the ones who wear the most camo, and can do the most drugs. And shockingly, I dont want to follow the footsteps, although I do not see that happening, but I am scared to death growing up with these people, because I fear it Might.
Bs is a whole new enviroment, and it is full of people who care, of their futures, their teachers/students, and their futures.

everyone of my classes has 30+ kids, which is no way to learn. The kids love it, because we never get anything done, and they are the kids who represent my school district.

I want to be known for being a successful and happy person, someone who can look back and say, well thank god i went to bs.=]

Mburg, That is practically my school district (well, without the coughing sisters :) ) i want to got to challenge myself

aw im really hoping you get in mburg!

yeah, it really sucks dragonkid! ahah.

and thank you maevy, i hope you do too!
