So worried! Please help.

Hey Guys!
I'm a junior and we just got our PSAT scores back. I got a 179 :/
I am actually very worried for the SAT now because I need atleast a 2000 to have a chance at the schools I want to apply for.
I really need some tips on what I should do to prepare.
I also needed some advice on when I should take the SAT. I actually have the HSPA during the week of the March test and AP testing during the week of the May test so I am just not sure. Please help, I am beyond worried :(

Math: Practice, keep a good pace
Critical Reading: Study SAT vocab words, don’t lose concentration during the long passages. If you do, try reading a paragraph at a time and answering the corresponding questions so you don’t have to read the whole passage at once.
Writing: Learn grammar rules - subject/verb agreement, pronoun agreement, idiomatic expressions (either…or…, neither…nor…, not only…but also…), and especially parallelism

I don’t know what the HSPA is but take the SAT in February or June.

Was the 179 with or without preparation? If it was without preparation, I don’t think you have much to worry about as long as you invest in some good SAT materials and buckle down and study. When I started taking practice PSATs, my early scores were in the 190s, and I was able to work up to my final score of 236 in a month or two, so you certainly would be able to raise your score by going through a good SAT book.

If it was with preparation, you still have hope. Perhaps you don’t work well by studying independently; if that’s the case, you should consider looking into preparation classes, although you should be careful what you pick as there are plenty of scammers out there.

Thank you so much for the replies. I just looked over the PSAT booklet they give you for preparation and that’s about it.
I have the BB and I am going to try to go through it. I’ve heard repetition and going over your answers helps?

Yeah, it is possible; I took the PSAT when I was a junior and got 165. However, when I became a senior I scored well above 2000. Just try to go over the material and find your weaknesses, then work on those weaknesses. It really helps to practice a lot, especially with the aid of practice tests (but try to review them after you finish them so you can examine your mistakes and understand why you got them wrong). Good luck with everything and don’t worry about it, just work hard ;)
