Well i received a letter from Georgetown today saying that I was deferred from their EA plan to their RD. So now what? Georgetown was not my top school, but still if they were so quick to defer me, why not just say no? At least this is how I feel right now. If Georgetown deferred me, what does that leave me with my 1 and 2 schools Columbia and Dartmouth, which are even more competitive. Now Georgetown tries to cheer me up by including a statistic saying that 15% of applicants that are deferred have, in the past, been accepted RD. This definitely leaves me in an awkward position, especially since I wanted to have some reassurance of being accepted into one of my top schools early.

Same thing happened to me!!!!!! The three of us who applied from my school (ranked 7,11, and 12 respectively) with solid scores, perfect or near perfect grades in Full IB, and excellent ec's were deferred. Looks like Georgetown will be missing out on three excellent additions to the class...

I just hope I get into my other schools, and like you, this deferral makes me a bit scared of my chances. I'm hoping Georgetown was just the oddball.

yeah me too for georgetown. it seems like they deferred ALOT of people. 1 out 3 ea in my class got in (not me). hmmm..... i guess will see what will happen

My suggestion is that you call them up and tell them that you want to withdraw your application (obviously they don't seem to want you so just tell them, "too bad; your loss")

That's really weird so many of you guys got deferred. It sounds like a lot of you are really qualified to. At my school, 7 people applied to GU EA and 6 got accepted. Only girl that didn't get accepted scored a 1340 on SAT, and that's on the new scale. Good luck though.

at the top schools winning admission is tough, and just how tough is now becoming apparent to a lot of people who dismissed warnings earlier.

But there's no reason to give up hope. First off, make sure your other apps are complete and as good as you can get them. Second, if there is further news that Georgetown didn't have when they reviewed your app be sure and send it to them. For example, good grades this semester, any new awards or honors, etc.

Just continue to do well and pursue your other applications. Its not the end of the world. If you do new and cool things inform them, if anything comes up to better your application.

Good luck!

Of the three possibilites I almost think deferral is worse- leaving you in limbo. Sorry.

My sister was rejected (or waitlisted, I don't remember) from Georgetown regular decision and accepted at Dartmouth regular, which is where she is now. Don't throw away what you thought your chances were at other schools because of this. Different schools want and look for different types of applicants; if Georgetown didn't want you, it's nothing personal, and I'm sure another school will. If Georgetown accepts you regular, then great, but you still have as good a chance at Columbia and Dartmouth as you did last week.
