So you didn't get into Emerson.....

If you were rejected or waitlisted by Emerson, where are you currently planning to attend?

I'm curious where others who didn't get into Emerson are going. My son, who was deferred then rejected by Emerson , will be attending the film program at RIT.

I was waitlisted and sent my deposit SCAD for their film major…I don’t know what I would do in the (very slight) chance that I get off Emerson’s waitlist.

Don’t lose hope Elaine. Someone posted on the Visual Art and Film forum that their son just got off the Emerson film waitlist.

Crewmom, can I be nosy and ask what your son’s stats were? specifically his GPA, and do you have a sense of why he didn’t get in? My son will be applying Early Action in the fall, with a low GPA but great portfolio, references, etc.

No problem…I copied this from one of my previous posts:

The film program is VERY competitive at Emerson.
Based on my son’s experience and contact with Emerson’s admission department, anything less than a 3.60 GPA has little to zero chance of getting accepted. He has a 3.42 unweighted which include 9 honors and 4 AP classes. He also had an impressive hook as well as years of film experience.
After he received his rejection letter he contact Emerson and was told that although they felt he was a great fit for the college, given the pool of film applicants , they could not overlook his GPA.
My advice when considering any colleges film program, is to ask what the film program acceptance stats are. They can be vastly different than the overall college acceptance stats.

I didn’t get into Emerson last year but the fact that I still look at these boards might indicate that I’m still not quite over it.

I got rejected, went to Ithaca College for a semester, transferred after Fall 2008 and am now at Columbia College Chicago, which I do love. Although I still wish I had gotten into Emerson.

I think (at least as far as the film program goes) CrewMom is right in that if you don’t have above a 3.60 GPA you won’t make the cut. I had a 3.55 unweighted GPA with 11 honours courses and 5 AP classes as well as many years of film experience including being in a local film festival twice. Since it’s so competitive they can be choosy and they seem to be very strict on GPA.

After reading through nearly all of the old threads like this one after applying to the film & video program Emerson, I’d nearly lost all of hope of even having a chance of being accepted due to my lowly gpa of 3.4. And guess what? I WAS ACCEPTED LAST WEEK!! Please do not think a lower than 3.6 gpa will keep you from being considered, SAT scores & your portfolio are equally as important!
