So your kid is going to Hampshire.

Hi parents,

Is your child going to attend Hampshire, or WANTS to attend Hampshire and you're on the fence in any way? I'm a current Hampshire student and I want to put any reservations you have against the college to rest.

Hampshire is an experimental school. It's not like every other liberal arts college. At the same time, it is very similar to other liberal arts colleges. The student life is very similar, the types students attending are very similar (except I think Hampshire kids are more dedicated), and the general atmosphere is very similar. What I'm trying to say is that when it comes to your kid's personal life, Hampshire isn't any worse than any other college.

The big advantage comes in academics. Some people freak out over there being "no structure", but there is a structure. Each student works with his/her/their adviser to create a structure that's independent to them. It's an amazing, individualized education that the student will get the most out of. Hampshire helps teach students how to drive themselves, how to get things done, and how to ask important, driving questions. It's a unique school which, granted, isn't for everyone, but if your child is as interested, enthusiastic, and determined to go to Hampshire as I was then support 'em!

Any questions? Concerns? Are YOU just as excited for your kid to go to Hampshire as he/she/they are?

I’m a Hampster mom - a very proud one at that. Hampshire has been the perfect place for my older S. Intellectually he’s challenged and he has a wonderful cohort of close friends. He’s taken about half his classes at Amherst College which gives the advantage of being at a small college but with huge offerings given the 5 college consortium. And of course, what’s not to love about Amherst and the surrounding towns?

I couldn’t agree with you more!

Also - post this on the Hampshire forum!
