Thank you for offering your help, I was just wondering what your GPA and SAT were and how much they helped you money wise. Thanks :)

Well, I applied as a transfer student, so the things they were looking at for admisions were slightly different.

In high school:
~ 3.45 GPA
1270 ACT (540m/730v)
30 ACT

But I had really good extracurrics/recs/ap classes/internships/etc.

My GPA freshmen year was ~3.6 and I was in the honors program/working full time/coaching a high school debate team.

It's been my experience that Simmons isn't really big into stats. I never got the impression that my low SAT math score was going to prevent me from getting in, for example. They're much more focussed on who you are as a person, and they're really into "diversity". So, focus on whatever makes you stand out.

They did not help me money wise. When I mean, did not help me, I mean, I receive $0. I was eligible for a $1,000 loan, at a 9.5% interest rate, which I did not accept. This is actually kind of a bitter point for me, because, first of all, even though I have some money left to me from my grandparents, I'm from a very average, middle class family. And secondly, I was accepted to some more prestigious institutions which gave me more money. It's important to note that this is probably because I applied as a transfer student, and I'm not eligible for a lot of the scholarships freshmen are.

And apply for outside scholarships. Every private liberal arts college in the northeast is expensive, so no matter where you wind up, expect to feel like you could always use more money.

what state are you from and what are you majoring in? thanks!

I'm from Florida, and I just changed from IR/History to Poli Sci/History (European Focus). I switched because the IR program requires you to minor in a language, and I didn't want to take 9 french classes. I am very happy with the quality of the instruction and academics in general. Classes are very competative, and teachers expect a lot from you. Their expectations aren't unreasonable, but I find myself genuinely challenged. And I've really met a lot of interesting people. I also didn't expect to meet so many international students.

i heard that social life at simmons is nonexistent. i really can't believe this b/c there is so much to do in Boston. what do you do on weekends and in your free time?

Boston is amazing. During the week I don't go out much, but it's really hard not to. Simmons is in a great area (right by Harvard Med and Fenway Stadium), and you can be anywhere in under an hour on the T. Simmons also sells discounted tickets to plays and the Ballet, and a movie theater and the MFA are right around the corner. During the week I took dance classes at Simmons, and I was involved with some clubs/hall council. I personally spend a lot of my weekends at Tufts/Harvard, but that's just me. I know lots of girls that really like staying on campus on the weekend. Don't worry, whatever it is you're looking for socially, you'll find it.

i heard from them today. it was so random.. i submitted my application on january 1st regular decision (along with some other apps) and i was pretty sure none of them would arrive until at least march. when i got the envelope i thought was another brochure. haha.
