if I get accepted..... me

jk

if I get accepted I hope I get to meet some politician's sons/daughters.

Yi Sun ?

who is yi sun

LOL..
IMO gold medallist, IPhO gold medallist, runner-up in Intel STS, and a bunch of other competitions I am not familiar with since I'm no math/physics person.

who is yi sun

Clearly, a "nobody" just like us. ;) In fact, no one comes to mind at all. I guess the only recognizably famous children-of-important-figures would be "development cases," the kind we railed against so much when we were applying.

But if we assume that there's more to fame than celebrity, and that there can be small degrees of fame within one's own world... I'm sure there are hundreds (if not thousands) of Harvard undergrads who are or were famous in their own communities or subcultures.

LOL Yi sun is not a nobody...he got 2nd in intel (a lot of people say he deserved first). He isn't "famous" really, but he's AMAZINGLY smart and accomplished in math and science and he's also really down to earth. and he's probably disturbed by these posts.

mmk...yea yi sun sounds like a cool cat

(Hi, Yi Sun!) Haha... this is the most ridiculous thread. I'm going to forget all about it and then meet him in an Expos section and be like "Oh, your name reminds me of someone... I've heard it before... my cousin? No, that Yi Zheng... hmm..."

And then I'll remember and it'll be ridiculously awkward. =D

i forwarded this to yi on facebook :)

Before I even had a chance to play out the awkward Expos encounter? You didn't!

Pfft! Well, I've already met an A-rated fencer and a Julliard-music-camp-at-age-14 kid (different people) so a little thing as the IMO won't impress me... ;) jk. But, seriously, this "degrees of amazing" thing is overrated.

Of course, if Daniel Radcliffe goes to Harvard, I will scream.

there's a rumor going around that he's going to princeton, but i really hope he doesn't

Giuliani's daughter was accepted early -- don't know whether she's going or not

That would be awesome. She probably would, with her dad trying to run for president and all...

Understand that while it might seem cool to be going to school with someone famous, you will probably not have any contact with them. Going up to someone and saying, "Hey, aren't you..." is just creepy and stalkerish.

And if you do have contact with them, it's not nearly as big a deal as you'd expect. Most of these students just don't like living in the shadow of their parents (who would?) One of John F. Kennedy's grandchildren is a freshman here, but no one really cares- she's just another student.

I'm just saying that there's no real reason to care what famous people go to Harvard. Obviously it's fun to talk about, but it has little to no effect on student life.

And more specifically, being famous is different from being related to someone famous. Especially in the case of JFK's granddaughter and Guiliani's daughter, why shouldn't they be treated as "just another student"? Most people probably wouldn't even realize who they are just by looking, and they're entitled to privacy, especially if they don't flagrantly reveal their bloodline to every other student they meet.

Of course, things would be different for Radcliffe, whom everyone would recognize, but otherwise yes, it would be uncomfortable for any one person to be drawing so much attention to him/herself in that academic environment.

in all honesty i didnt mean it in the "famous people" context...i meant it more as who at harvard is popular/famous because of their accomplishments in high school be it imo, ipho, all american athlete...things like that
