Emma Willard just called.
They don't have any money for me, I can't go.

This is so cruel and unethical.
They put me through this rollar coaster of visiting from Florida, working so hard on the application, spending money I don't have on fees, getting in and feeling so proud, then finding out I've been put on a FA waiting list, making me wait for over a month, and now...
Nothing.

It's over.

For a school that has over $100 million in endowment, they're pretty cheap.

Thanks Emma Willard.

Just incase anyone else is going through what I am right now, let me tell you this:
You won't do well BECAUSE of your flakey school, you'll do well in SPITE of them. Just because this dream has been crushed, don't ever let it EVER stop you from pursuing other dreams. You are just as amazing as every other accepted student. It hurts badly now, I know, but time heals all wounds and eventually there will be a point when this whole process is just a distant memory, one that you'll only think about from time to time. That memory won't cause you pain, though, because you are a stronger person now.

I wish everyone, whether you're going staying home or going off to school, good luck for next fall.
:)

I'm so sorry, Zoe. Is there any hope at all that your family can find the $ for you to attend? I hope that's possible, because you certainly seem to be a girl who would contribute to her school if you could just GET there. Remember that you ARE accepted, so maybe something can work out. Good luck.

I am sorry to hear your news. And I do agree with you--"you are just as amazing as every other accepted student."

There are kids who applied to schools last year and were waitlisted --they reapplied this year and got in w/ FA. Perhaps that will happen for you as well, if you still wish to attend BS next year.

You were accepted! That's an accomplishment! Sad as you may be that you can not afford to go, you still have every reason to feel proud. Why don't you try again next year? If you were applying as a freshman you were only one in a gigantic pool of qualified kids. Why don't you ( if you haven't already ) ask the admissions office if it may be less competitive a grade later. Often times this is the case, even though there are less slots available, there are respectively less applicants. Good luck to you and keep up the good school work wherever you are!

i have no clue what to say. zoe you are amazing and don't let this get you down...if you don't want to give up, write a letter to Oprah...she has lots of money!!!

Oh Zoe, I went through the SAME thing.
And there is nothing I can say that can make the situation any better.
I don't doubt that you will do well.
Sometimes, Life just sucks.

Hey zoe, this doesn't mean that you are not as good as those who receive enough FA to attend. From what I've seen, you are a wonderful girl. I wish I could meet you at EW. I can't be this year. But may be next year. Who knows... Keep your head high girl!

Ha, I honestly don't care if they read this!
It's the truth, and if they can't take it then they shouldn't be so self-congratulatory.
:)

Anyway!
Thanks for all the nice replies, you don't know how much they mean to me.
It's nice to know that I have support during this horrible time.

*I meant to say that if they can't handle the truth then they shouldn't have done what they did to me!
I have every right to be upset and want to rant.
If they were to read my post and say "this girl cannot come to our school" then what does that say about the school?
Hahaha.

jumpstartzoe
sublime attitude.
i know if i was in this situation i would yelling my head off and possibly take a trip to the nearest bridge..or cliff.

keep it up, with your personality, i know you'll do wonderful in your future. simply amazing. =)

zoe...have you thought about next year? My son was admitted for 9th with no fa. We reapplied the following year, same school, again for 9th and were given the needed aid. I know the same has happened with another poster on this board. It's worth a try and lots of people repeat 9th. BS like you to do that if you are coming out of a public school.

fun is fun-honestly, i think that the idea of the admissions people trawling the boards is just a myth, like the monsters in the closet. and even if they do exist, are they going to go through all the chances threads and match those statistics to the applications.

I just found out that I got into the I.B. program at the local high school, which is good.
I'm a little excited to do this whole process over, as crazy as that sounds, because there are sooo many things I'm going to do different.
Like, maybe sign up for a SSAT course and definitely apply to a bunch of schools--not just one!

Wow, Zoe. I'm impressed that you're able to get excited about repeating the entire application process again. I wish you the best of luck this time, and yeah, it's probably a good idea to apply to more than one school.

Zoe - that is terrific you got into the I.B. program !

Whatever happened at EW, happened for a reason. It is important for you to understand without applying blame. The fact that you were admitted in the first place speaks volumes. Just because they have a lot of endowment money does not mean they could afford every one who qualified for FA. Don't forget, record numbers have applied this year to all BS's. Also, if you are able to get past your hurt and anger, it may well make sense to apply again. By so doing, it would demonstrate to the school your level of commitment, and by applying for your sophomore year, it could change the admissions dynamic entirely. Personally, I would actually consider EW my first choice again for this very reason, but of course apply to other schools!

It is so important to come up with a good plan to improve your chances, especially since you are looking for FA, which lets face it, probably makes it twice as hard as it already is. Now you have the time to do just that. This is a good thing! Also, and this is important, a lot of people "in the know" think it is much better to start BS at 10th grade, the applicant pool is not so large, and one has had the benefit of an extra year to grow in maturity. Not to suggest that you are not mature enough now, just that you will be even greater than you already are another year from now!
Best of luck!
