How would you convince uor parents to visit out of state schools?

What I did is I just approached them and explained to them the reasons why I wanted to do this. For me they were the many offerings, oppurtunities, and life lessons that accompany boarding school.

opps not boarding schools but college

Umm...if it's not urgent (ie, you're a junior or younger) try to mix them into other vacations. For example, if your family is planning a vacation to California, try to convince them to take a day to visit UCB or w/e.

Or, just explain the importance of visiting colleges before you apply: 1) It shows interest in the college, which may boost your application 2) It helps you get an idea of what kinds of colleges you like/don't like 3) If you do choose to apply there, you'll have a lot easier time writing your "Why Us?" essays

Show them that the particular school/s you want to visit are expecially good for your major, or "fit" your personality and type best. And you can always use the excuse of you can't "buy" something (college education) before shopping a bit! Another option is to wait until you are accepted to cut down on costs. Visiting while regular semester is in session is way different than summer visits.

'cept I don't know what I want to major in.

Wait, are they completely against you going out of state for college or have you just not spoken to them about the subject yet?

we definatly need more info...like why they object etc.

im not sure i can help much though, i dont have too much experiance in that...my parents dont take a significant amount convincing to drive me anywheres up to ~900 miles as long as theres a good reason('good reason' isnt too strict)

"Wait, are they completely against you going out of state for college or have you just not spoken to them about the subject yet?"

both?

how about first you go talk to them ask them why. bring up some good out of state schools that you'd have a chance at and would be reasonable to visit. talk to them about the feasabilitiy of you attending there. listen to the reasons they give for why you should stay in state. if things seem to be going your way then ask about visiting, if they're adament then you probably shouldnt ask at that time.

above all you need to talk to them and listen to what they say. they will most likely be the ones paying the bills for it so you're the one that needs to convince them not vice versa

Well, i talked to my dad and he said we could swing by on our trip!

Congrats! That's a huge first step. Have you spoken to your Mom at all about it?

What do you mean? I said dad said we could stop by, and she responded really?

When should I call the college to secure a visit? We are leaving the week of 12-125th.

check the college's website first. some require you to register before going, others don't.
