SOAR date

Anyone else have a really late SOAR date? Mine is August 2nd and I'm pretty concerned that I won't be able to get any classes. :/

Mine is on July 24…only a couple of weeks before yours.
And yeah, it’s aggravating to think that we’ll have less options to pick from…and to top it off we have a 13 unit cap.
I was wondering if maybe we could ask to speak to our department’s advisors ahead of time. Like schedule an appointment or something and maybe, somehow, get rid of that orientation hold that we have.

I dont think there is any way around SOAR. They put a hold on your account so you can’t register until someone from SOAR removes it. Some of the classes I planned on registering for are full are close to being full. There are still plenty of classes with lots of seats still available. You just might not get the classes you want to take this fall. This could be a good opportunity to get the crappy classes over and done with :/

My date is July 23rd and it was the first day available for my major.

You’ll get all of the classes you need, you just have to be flexible. As long as you don’t say I don’t want classes on these 2 days and I don’t want any before 11 AM then you should be fine. You just might not get the best professors and the times you want.

I’m not going to lie. Those are LATE SOAR dates. You guys should have signed up for the earlier dates as possible (end of June). Hopefully, you’ll still be able to get into you want.

Mine is in late July as well. I didn’t pick a late date, that was just the one for my major. I was told by someone in my department that one of the reasons for the unit cap is so that transfers and other new students are able to add enough classes and that we should be fine as long as we’re flexible.

all transfer soar dates are at earliest in july. so as a trasnfer, dont sweat it.

Does anyone know if those are the dates that are just still open? When I signed up, it said my college had one on July 20th and that’s what I took, but now it only says that one… It still seems to look right on MyCSULB.

So has anyone gone in the past or know someone associated with the program?

I read the SOAR page but still don’t know what to expect. I also don’t really get why is costs 62 dollars? Are we paying the staff or something?

Can I bring my girlfriend to this?

you can’t bring anyone who isnt signed up for soar. they tell you to leave visitors at the front.

basically what theyll do is divide you by major, and give a tour around the school focusing o nthe area that will be your major. they also do cheesy ice breakers and in the end put you in a room with soar advisors who help you pick out classes for next semester, then youll go to the horn center and sign up.

The $62 pays for the orientation fee.
