Hello! I am a transfer student who is going to be a sociology major at UC Berkeley. However, I am thinking about majoring in Political Economy as well because I am sort of interested in global affairs. I am thinking this would be beneficial as I am planning to study public policy for grad school. Would it matter what major I am when I am applying for grad school? I don't want to change my sociology major because all my EC's are currently already centered on this field, and I do find the subject matter genuinely interesting. If I were to declare Political Economy as a second major, I would have to take a few remaining courses this fall semester.

It's the extracurriculars that count in grad school admissions right--in contrast to what you major in? I'm planning to work a while before applying to grad school anyway.

Also, I would like to graduate on time (spring 2012, 4 semesters away) BUT I want to study abroad in Spain or some other country. Would that be possible? Thanks again

note: I'm taking an upper div Soc class this summer which will knock 1/7 major courses out of the way
