Yeah, that’s true. One thing I learned tonight: Berkeley DOES NOT discriminate against their undergraduate students for their graduate program admissions. That’s just a rumor!

^ i spoke to my anthro advisor and she said otherwise…she said that berkeley admitted only one student who did undergrad at Berkeley because most berkeley anthro students participated with URAP… she said that ideally they (anthro grad program) want someone who hasnt researched with them before…she said they want a diverse pool…hence doing undergrad with them and working closely with your professors gives you a familiarity that they dont want. they want fresh ideas and people…thats what my advisor said.
idk how it is for other programs.

Was at the Costa Mesa event tonight. Wish I hadn’t gone, haha. I found the presentation incredibly boring and filled with annoying cliches. Lots of self-fellating a la “Berkeley is the best public school.” In fact, one of the student presenters even called it “The best school in the world” with no use of the word “public” haha.

The UCLA disses were also incredibly lame. One of the student guys speaking basically said, “Well, I had the decision to make between UCLA and Berkeley. My friend told me that UCLA was the school for Berkeley rejects so I submitted to Berkeley.” And I was like…really? That’s all it took?

The whole thing left me with a sour taste, and left me wanting to come right home and send my intent to register to UCLA.

Enjoy being #2. Haha.

yeah that was a turn off…they did that at the Pasadena event…i didnt like it. they took some low blows…kinda like Berkeley is intimidated by UCLA.

UCLA did have more freshman applicants than Berkeley and UCLA is coming up close…so yeah i felt a hint of jealousy and rivalry towards the Bruins

i love UCLA and i did feel uncomfortable when they were talking crap…Berkeley was being a tad immature hahahahaha

Well Berkeley probably should be worried. UCLA has the lower acceptance rate. From my experience in high school, Berkeley was the school for UCLA rejects.

Realistically, neither school is the school for _________ rejects.

That UCLA dissing did nothing more than make me want to play devil’s advocate and diss Berkeley.

I realize it’s stupid to judge a school by some presentation though. I’m going up to Berkeley this weekend so I can make a more informed decision!

What is a UCLA? I never heard of it.

Yeah, I thought the UCLA bashing lacked class and was a crude attempt at swaying the people on the “LA or Cal” seesaw.

And an ineffective way. It certainly did not tilt me towards Berkeley.

if they need to bash another school to get students to SIR, then maybe it’s not so great after all…just SIR to UCLA already! We’ve got class.

haha, I’m leaning towards it for sure. But I do need to actually visit Berkeley…I’ve never even been there so I’m not really being fair. Maybe I’ll love it? Who knows!

yeah, you should def. visit so you can get a feel for the campus. just don’t come back dissing LA!

even if i choose Berkeley…i love UCLA…it is a part of the Los Angeles culture…i would never ever diss my Bruin homies.

its all about the Trojan Hate. i hate those Trojan pricks.

ciaokarol: Never! I love UCLA (and always have!). Back since like 4th grade I’ve been a huge fan of the bruins, and so far, UCLA has the most beautiful campus I’ve ever seen. It’s also in a fun area, and it seems like it would provide a great social life.

If I do go to Berkeley, I’ll probably always wonder what it would have been like at UCLA, haha. The opposite is probably true as well.

well go to UCLA! both of you! maybe I should tone it down…I haven’t SIRd either, and I’m not even considering any other schools lol :(

I’ll poke at my UCLA friends for being she-bears, but that’s about it >:)

[File:UCLA arial.jpg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:UCLA_arial.jpg)

look^ the campus is shaped like a heart…it loves you.

ciakarol: did you also get into Berkeley?

Honestly, I know this is such a stupid and superficial concern, but I hate thinking that people might think of me as a Berkeley reject for going to UCLA. People don’t actually think like this…right? haha. In the end, it doesn’t matter. At this moment in time, for some dumb reason, it concerns me.

no, i didn’t get in, but i don’t care because i’ve wanted to go to ucla since i can remember and no, people don’t think like that. honestly, i don’t understand why people place berkeley on a whole other level, as if ucla doesn’t even come close. ucla is an amazing university, and is def. not sub par.

i would choose UCLA over Berkeley any day of the week if i chose ANY other major besides business. i’d just rather live in LA than berkeley. but there’s no way i can say no to haas. well, unless usc gives me a full ride :)
