SoCal nursing options

D21 is committed to only applying to schools with direct admit programs for BSN and would like to stay in SoCal. Considering the options we are trying to figure out a safety route.
Would going to any CSU for pre-nursing and then trying to get into their nursing be better/worst then going to CC and getting ADN , then RN and then applying to RN to BSN program?
Thank you!

The CC to ADN/RN route is no better than the CSU Pre-Nursing to BSN program since the most of the Southern California CC’s are also impacted for Nursing and getting the pre-req courses in a timely manner is difficult. Affordabilty is probably the difference in taking the Nursing pre-req’s at a CC vs. a CSU.

If you go the CSU Pre-Nursing to the BSN program route, you can still apply to other CSU and UC Nursing programs as a Transfer applicant including the home CSU program.

Direct admit to a BSN program will be her safest bet. Nursing schools in general can get 4 times (or more) the applicants for spots available (the school I teach at gets 400 plus applicants each semester for only 90 some spots). Doing “pre nursing” doesnt change this fact and she will still be competing with hundreds of applicants and would need tip top grades to be formally accepting into the nursing portion of the program.
Some Magnet (top tier) hospitals will not hire an ADN. Other hospitals will hire ADN’s with the expectation they complete their BSN within a certain time frame.

Always best to start where they can guarantee her a spot in the nursing program.
