How is soccer at Swarthmore? Is the varsity team well-regarded? And in terms of the social scene, how are athletes considered?

One 2011 grad turned pro and played for Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer:

Last year the soccer team was ranked #1 in D3 for a week. Then the S.I." cover jinx" hit them and they were upset by an unranked team. This year they won the ECAC South Region championship this year. It has been a very good team for the past several years.

What I love about athletics at Swarthmore can be summed up by describing the senior goalie for the soccer team. He is a fantastic goalie, a team captain, was named to the Academic All-America D3 soccer team, sings in one of the highly regarded a cappella groups, and is an Engineering major. (No, he’s not my kid. ;))

Soccer and lacrosse are probably the most highly-regarded sports at Swat. In my personal experience, male soccer players are way less likely to be a-holes than lax bros, and the girls’ team is definitely full of awesome people (disclaimer: I’m not on the team).
